- Visual Communication Design focuses on information design and communication, in print and interactive new media, and includes design for needs relating to education, culture, health, and safety.
- Graduate students have presented their work at local, national, and international conferences and exhibitions.
- In the first year of the program, students will normally be required to take 18 course weights of credit.
- The thesis is a project that allows the student to learn advanced working methods and to make an original contribution to their chosen field of design and it includes both a design product and a written document.
- At least 5 weeks before the oral exam date, the supervisor provides the Graduate Advisor with exam details: date, time, location, thesis title and all committee member names and titles.The supervisor confirms the date and time of the oral exam with all committee members.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students are required to have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree, or its academic equivalent, from an academic institution, recognized by the University of Alberta.
- Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B Grade) on the University of Alberta's 4-point scale based on the recent two years of full-time study.
Indian Student Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Students must complete a 4-year UG degree with a 60% score i.e first-class division in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- GPA of 3.0/4.0 (B Grade) based on the recent two years of full-time study (or equivalent) is required.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

- CV/Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
