The Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI) is a postgraduate medical institution devoted to research, teaching, and patient care in the field of chest diseases. The institute was established in1946 and then formally opened on12th January 1953 and is maintained by Delhi University and funded entirely by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
VPCI offers 3 types of courses – DM, MD, and Ph.D. and there 5 types of specializations available in MD and Ph.D.
The candidates have to take National Eligibility Entrance Test Post-Graduate (NEET PG) for admission into MD course followed by online counselling. For admission into DM course of Pulmonary Medicine, the candidates have to take a National Eligibility Entrance Test Super Speciality (NEET SS) followed by online counselling.
Admission to the Ph.D. program will be granted on the basis of an entrance test followed by personal interviews by the admissions committee
Final Selection to all the courses is governed by the Faculty of Medicine Studies, Delhi University and all the application forms and information is available on its official website.

VPCI offers 5 specializations under the MD course i.e. Pulmonary Medicine, Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. The admissions are made through the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the University of Delhi as per the university procedures and regulations.

The candidate must have passed the final M.B.B.S. examination from the University of Delhi and must have completed a satisfactorily one-year compulsory rotating internship and must submit their internship completion certificate before or at the time of appearing for the counselling.
The candidate must have full registration with the Delhi Medical Council/ State Medical Council/ Medical Council of India/ Dental Council of India.
There is 50% Delhi University Quota and 50% All India Quota will be undertaken by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India
VPCI offers a Doctorate of Medicine in Pulmonary Medicine.

The candidate must have passed the final MBBS examination and must have completed a satisfactorily one-year compulsory rotating internship.
The candidate must have passed the Post-Graduate (MD/ MS) examination.
The candidate holding Diplomate of National Board of Examination will be eligible for admission to Super-Speciality courses, provided they have done thesis work. Evidence of the thesis shall be produced by the candidate.
Admission would be made strictly on the basis of merit of the eligible candidates determined by marks obtained in the NEET SS and the next step is the online counselling. The candidates are required to register themselves online on www.mcc.nic.in.
VPCI offers Ph.D. in 5 specializations i.e. Pulmonary Medicine, Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology.

The candidates should have a Master's degree or a professional in the same or allied subjects, declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate. A relaxation of 5% for the reserved castes is given.
Ph.D. Candidates will be admitted in a two-stage process through the following:
Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF/DST-INSPIRE/AYUSH-NET or equivalent national level examination/fellowship (as identified by DRC)/GATE/teacher fellowship holder can directly appear for interview
The syllabus for the entrance test will consist of 50% questions on research aptitude/methodology and 50% subject-specific questions.
