Institute of Mass Communication Film and Television Studies is one of the finest learning centres dedicated to media studies In India. It was started in the year 2002 and is located in the capital city of Kolkata, West Bengal.

The institute offers B.A. (Honours) in Media Studies, B.A. (Majors) in Advertising, Retail Chain and Sales Promotion, PG Diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism & Film and Television Studies and M.A in Mass Communication and Community Journalism courses. IMCFTS also offers short certificate courses and value-added programs.

  • Candidates seeking admission to the B.A (Hons.) in Media Studies course must secure at least 45% aggregate marks and 55% marks in the Language exam, or 50% in aggregate and 45% in Language at the Higher Secondary level.
  • Candidates applying to the B.A (Majors) course must pass 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • Admission to UG courses is merit-based and candidates are evaluated on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying exam.
  • For the M.A course, applicants must be B.A (Honours) degree in any discipline or with Communicative English (Major) course.
  • Media and corporate personnel with at least two-year of work experience and Graduates with a one-year PG Diploma in Mass Communication/Journalism/Film and Television Studies/Publics Relations/ Advertising are also eligible for an MA course.
  • 40% of seats in the M.A course are directly allotted to Kalyani University candidates who have completed B.A (Hons.) in Mass Communication and Journalism or PG Diploma in Mass Communication/Film and Television Studies courses.
  • For admission in MA, the rest of the 60% seats are filled through candidates selected on the basis of institute level entrance exam score and viva-voce performance.
  • Those applying for the PG Diploma courses must obtain pass marks in graduation in order to be eligible.

IMCFTS BA and Certificate Courses Admission 2023

IMCFTS offers a B.A (Honours) course in Media Studies (Mass Communication and Journalism) and B.A (Majors) course in Advertising, Retail Chain and Sales Promotion. Short certificate courses of 6 months are also available in various areas such as advertising, public relations and event management, animation, film, editing, photography, marketing, sales promotion and retail management and corporate training.

The minimum eligibility for BA (Honours) is 10+2 with at least 45% aggregate marks and 55% marks in the Language exam, or 50% in aggregate and 45% in Language. For Certificate courses, the candidate must pass 10+2 examination in any stream.

Admission is merit-based and candidates are shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying exam. Candidates must fill up an online application form available on the college website or take a print-out of the duly filled form and send it along with photocopies of all educational mark sheets and certificates. Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification at the college and admission is granted after payment of the stipulated fee amount.

IMCFTS MA and PG Diploma Admission 2023

The college offers MA in Mass Communication and Community Journalism course for a duration of two-year. PG Diploma courses are also offered in Mass Communication and Journalism and Film and Television Studies. For PG Diploma courses, Candidates need to pass in graduation to qualify for admission.

40% seats are reserved for direct admission to students of Kalyani University. Admission to the rest of the 60% seats takes place through an entrance exam conducted by the institute. Other university candidates must appear for an institute level written test. Those who clear the test are called for a viva round at IMCFTS. Final selection is done on the basis of academic merit, entrance test score and viva performance. Whereas, PG Diploma applicants are evaluated on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying exam.

IMCFTS Application Process 2022

  • Candidates must log onto the official website of the institute.
  • Click on the desired course and click on ‘Apply Now’ tab.
  • Fill up the form and click on Send.
  • Pay the fees through cash/credit card/debit card at the college office or through DD.
  • Application Fees: INR 500 (for University students) and INR 600 (for other students)
  • Outstation candidates need to pay postage charge of INR 100 in addition to the application form fee.
  • DD must be drawn in favour of ‘Institute of Mass Communication Film and Television Studies’, payable at Kolkata.
  • The application form can be downloaded and printed and submitted as a duly filled hard copy as well.
  • Candidates must submit attested photocopies of all educational mark sheets, certificates and 2 passport size photographs along with the form.
