About Coimbatore Institute of Technology

Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), was established in the year 1956. With the aim of spreading professional learning with industrial training expertise, the Institute was founded by the V. Rangaswamy Naidu Educational Trust (VRET). The college is a government-aided, autonomous engineering college. It was made autonomous in 1987. CIT was initially affiliated to the Madras University till 1980, after which the affiliation was transferred to the Bharathiar University. The Institute is now under the affiliation of Anna University (from 2001).

CIT has 13 different departments such as Physics, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, etc. The Institute offers a total of 7 undergraduate programs, nine postgraduate programs, three five-year integrated M.Sc. programs along with Ph.D. research programs. Coimbatore Institute of Technology also has a polytechnic college, CIT Sandwich Polytechnic College, which started in 1961 that currently offers eight engineering diplomas in various disciplines.

Admissions for all courses in CIT are made based on the marks secured in the respective Entrance Exams and 10+12 or equivalent qualifying examinations followed by a counseling session. the accepted entrance tests are- JEE Mains, TNEA, CIT-CET, TANCET, GATE, CIT-MSc depending upon the course applied for.

How to Apply?

Candidates will have to download the application form available on the website and fill the form.

Before filling the form, students are required to register on the official TNEA website.
After the results of the related entrance exams are published, students will receive a rank list based on which counselling will take place. Students can register for counselling on the above mentioned TNEA website.
All seats are allotted based on the counselling by the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, and Anna University for BE/ BTech and ME/ MTech/ MCA programs, respectively.
Candidates applying for MSc Integrated courses will have their selection process based on the CIT-MSc Entrance Exam conducted by the Institute, followed by a personal interview for shortlisted candidates. A small fee of INR 1000 is payable for all students applying for MSc.

The Placement Cell of CIT functions in a most efficient manner. The cell strives to employ methods that are most effective for students to gain exposure and get selected into companies worldwide. CIT engages its students right from the first day of their final year in activities like mock interviews, career guidance sessions, and workshops to enhance their knowledge about work life. It also has close contacts with various companies that conduct pre-placement presentations and campus interviews.

Students are given updates about the placement procedure and are kept on notices about the information on the industries visiting the Institute. Library – Established in 1956, the CIT library is built over an area of 1302 sq. Meter. The library provides a massive range of e-services and is equipped with modern facilities and resources in the form of books, journals, and research papers. The library provides students with access to databases all around the world from which they can access study material to cater to their educational needs.
IT Resource, and Maintenance Cell (ITRM) – The ITRM is responsible for managing and catering to any faults in the computers and network connectivity. The ITRM cell has more than 50 machines that are accessible by the students and faculty. It has high-speed internet connectivity and optical fiber connections all around the campus.
Sports – CIT has a well-equipped gymnasium, cricket and football ground, and also a 400-meter stadium. The Institute is very enthusiastic about games and organizes and hosts many inter and intra sports meets throughout the academic year.

What Students Say?

It gives you full freedom to do your project in any area, irrespective of courses for innovation. I belonged to CsE, but I did a project on robots.
Internships start from the end of the 4th semester, providing a valuable opportunity to gain knowledge through fieldwork.
The placements at our college are very good, and many companies came for placements, including Deshaw, Bosch, Amazon, etc.
The College provides good scholarship facilities to the students but, to the best of my knowledge, there are no loan facilities provided by the college.
Culture is good and everyone is friendly. All students will support us in achieving the goals set out on this page and will act as effective ambassadors for the Institute, both as students and later as alumni.
Most days, they used to spend more time on campus compared to visiting their family on vacation.
As a student, general facilities can be increased, such as providing more water filters and more toilets. They can also improve the infrastructure because it is very old.

Dislike

I am writing this because the UI was poorly designed, without considering the scenario of there being no internship.
This department was weak in this college, at least when I was there

I came from another state quota, so I took an entrance exam i.e jee main. I score 70 PERCENTILE in jee main. A minimum 60 percentile is required to get Electronic and communication and engineering.

For Aided students, we got through counseling. We got the application form through the email they sent to us when we got the seat that is when they took us in. Other people who join management can collect it from the CIT office. Like everywhere in our college also it is first come first serve basis if u reserve first and come at the time and date which is scheduled for you they will take you in. In our case we didn't reserve before as soon as we were eligible they took the selected and sent the application form through email and called us for admission. They split every student and called everyone according to their schedule which was pretty convenient because we didn't have the trouble of waiting the whole day and leaving our work behind, of course, we waited a bit since other students also getting their admission but we didn't wait so long. The admission process was so organized so there is nothing to change. We got to campus we submitted the files and proofs and some details.And we got in.

But in my college they uploaded the admission date separately in my college website but TNLEA certificate indicates to another date that time i was reach my college earlier 2 days then i was returned to my native after 2 days again i went to college admissions

I got admitted through counselling and I only got a self-support course seat Which is 70000/yr fees And aided seats are 27000/yr The admission process took only about 10-20mins in college and Through counselling, you need to wait for a few days for choice filling
