Anna University Eligibility for Ph.D. Programmes:

The candidates must have Master's degree in relevant streams of study.

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering & Technology with a minimum of 15 years of Research & Development Experience in National Research Laboratories/ Public Sector Undertakings
  • He/she should have minimum of 3 Publications in referred impact factor journals and 2 approved international patents in last 5 years
  • He/she should have minimum 55% marks(50% for SC/ST) or CGPA of 5.5 (5.0 for SC/ST) on a 10 point scale

Ph.D. is provided in Full time and Part time mode and the following candidates are eligible to apply:

Full Time Ph.D. courses:

  • Candidates under Full time should do research work in University Departments/colleges/ campuses/ affiliated Engineering colleges/ Architecture schools
  • Candidates working under the projects undertaken from state/ central or equivalent fully funded through the projects in University Departments/colleges/ campuses/ Govt. / Govt. Aided/ self-financing Engineering colleges within Tamil Nadu
  • The candidates should be appointed in a project sanctioned by a funding agency/ organization for atleast 2 years
  • Employed candidates applying for full time study should be sponsored by their employer and shall avail leave for minimum duration of programme study with permission from their employer
  • Candidates sponsored by AICTE under Quality Improvement Programme for teachers in Engineering colleges'
  • Candidates who are selected at National Level fellowship programmes
  • Foreign nationals sponsored by Government of India or exchange programme

Part time Ph.D. Courses:

  • Full time Teachers of University Departments/colleges of engineering/ campuses/ Govt. / Govt. Aided/ self-financing Engineering colleges within Tamil Nadu
  • Candidates working in R&D Centres recognized by university

Anna University Ph.D. Application Procedure:

Admissions to Ph.D. programmes is made twice a year one in August and one in February every. The procedure for application is given as under:

Step 1: Application forms can be downloaded from the official website of the university

Step 2: The downloaded application form should be filled properly and there should not be any marking/ over writing/it should not be incomplete

Step 3: The application fees i.e. INR 800 for General category and INR 400 for Tamil Nadu SC/ ST/ SCA candidates should be paid online only

Step 4: Applications should be submitted along with required documents and Online fee receipt on the following address:

Documents to be submitted along with application form:

  • Photocopies of Certificates of class X or equivalent/ HSC/ UG/PG Marks sheets and all the certificates

  • Research thesis of one page on chosen topic duly signed by Supervisor, Joint Supervisor and the candidate
  • 2 self-addressed covers stamped to the value of Rs. 5/- each

Anna University Selection Procedure:

The candidates should be considered for admission on the following criteria:

  • The candidates applying for the particular stream should have consent of recognized supervisor of the concerned Department
  • The preliminary verification of the eligible candidates will be done by the Centre of Research
  • The short listed candidates will be called for written test
  • The cut off marks will be final for selection
