Pragjyotish College is a premier educational institute in Guwahati, Assam. It was established on September 1, 1954. It is a well-known full-fledged degree college in Assam and is affiliated to Guwahati University.
The college offers a plethora of undergraduate courses in the disciplines of arts, science, and commerce with a yearly intake of 150 students in each discipline. It additionally offers BBA and BCA courses with 30 seats each. At the postgraduate level, Pragjyotish College offers an M.A. program in Assamese (Language & Literature) including an M.T.M. program with 30 seats in each course.
- Allotment of Major in the Bachelor Degree courses (B.A., B.Sc. & B.Com) is made by the respective departments after the commencement of the classes after Summer Vacation.

Pragjyotish College, Guwahati offers a horde of 3-year degree programs in the disciplines of Arts, Science and Commerce in addition to BBA and BCA courses at the undergraduate level. With General and Major courses in all three disciplines, the institute currently offers 13 B.A. General combinations and 14 Major electives, 10 each of B.Sc. General combinations and B.Sc. Major electives, including 5 B.Com specializations with Majors.
The basic eligibility criteria for admission to these courses is a pass in H.S.S.L.C. (Assam) / 10+2 level exam from a recognized board. Selection of candidates for the B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com courses is done on the basis of marks obtained in the last qualifying exam. BBA and BCA candidates are selected on the basis of written test (conducted by the college) score merit.

- Students admitted to the B.A. program must study Assamese/ Hindi/ Bengali/ Bodo/ Alternative English including a General English paper as compulsory subjects.
- They can take Travel and Tourism Management (Vocational) in lieu of one elective in the General course only. Seeking Major on the concerned subject is not permitted.

Pragjyotish College, Guwahati offers M.A. in Assamese (Language/ Literature) and M.T.M. programs at the post-graduate level. The basic eligibility criteria for admission to the M.A. program is a B.A. degree with major in Assamese.
For admission to the M.T.M. program, Graduation in any discipline is requisite. Selection of candidates for the M.A. program is done on the merit basis, i.e., marks obtained in Assamese (Major) and aggregate marks in graduation. Pragjyotish College accepts applications from eligible candidates in offline mode only. Candidates seeking admission to the college may obtain the application form and prospectus by visiting the institute campus in person and purchase the same with cash. The application process in details is as follows:
- Candidates are required to purchase the application form and information brochure from the fee counter by paying the cost of application form in cash.
- All relevant columns in the application form must be filled and with correct details. Incomplete applications/ discrepancy in the information provided if found later will be subject to cancellation of candidature.
- The candidate must attach self-attested photocopies of all relevant documents mentioned in the information brochure. Partially submitted documents will be treated as incomplete applications.
- The application fee for the concerned program must be paid via demand drafts only. Cheque/ cash or any other form of payment is not accepted by the institute.
- The applicant must enclose the complete application form, copies of all relevant documents, and the demand draft for the prescribed application fee and send the same to the institute so as to reach on or before the last date. Applications late received won’t be considered for admission.
