Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in inviting applications for BSc agriculture admission 2023. The last date to apply is July 27, 2023. BSc Agriculture in Tamil Nadu is provided by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU). TNAU has more than 20 affiliated private and public colleges that provide BSc Agriculture courses. The University has been ranked the number 1 Agricultural University in India by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). 

BSc Agriculture Admissions in Tamil Nadu are done through the counseling conducted by the University. Nearly 65% of seats are filled by the means of counseling while the rest of the seats are filled through management quota. Applicants who want to secure their admission to the university will need to appear for the counseling process. 

Admissions are done based on the aggregate marks secured by the candidate in the last qualifying exam. To appear for counseling, the applicant must have secured at least 55% marks in class 12.

Tamil Nadu BSc Agriculture Admission 2023: Eligibility 

To successfully take admissions in the institute the applicant needs to satisfy the following criteria as set out by the University.

  • Educational Qualification: Applicants must have cleared 10+2 from a recognized board or its equivalent with PCMB or PCB as compulsory subjects. Applicants from boards outside the state of Tamil Nadu are not eligible for admissions to the Tamil Nadu BSc Agriculture Admission.
  • Minimum Marks: Candidates who belong to the unreserved category need to secure at least 55% score in HSC while SC/ST candidates only need 35% or a pass in HSC. Most Backward Classes need 45% aggregate while Backward Classes and Backward Class Muslim need 50% marks to seek Tamil Nadu BSc Agriculture Admission.
  • Age Limit: Applicants should be younger than 21 years as of July while applying for Tamil nadu BSc Agriculture Admission. For SC/ST candidates, there is no age limit.
  • Domicile: Only local residents of Tamil Nadu will be eligible for admission. However, candidates who have studied 10, 11 and 12 grade in Tamil Nadu can apply for admission.

Tamil Nadu BSc Agriculture Admission 2023: Counselling 

Candidates who secure an eligible rank in the merit list will be notified of their candidature. They can choose to apply for counselling. Usually, the number of candidates invited is 5 times more than the seats available. Applicants can register themselves for the counselling by following these steps.

  • Lgin through your credentials on the official website
  • Now, apply for the counselling and choose your college and degree according to the rank secured in the merit list
  • Submit your choices and pay the online counselling fee of INR 2000.

Candidates whose names appear on the merit list will be eligible to appear for the counselling process. Different counselling will take place for candidates under special reservations. The counselling follows these steps.

  • Based on the choices and rank, allotment of seats will take place . The candidates will be informed through an SMS and E-mail also giving them further instructions regarding application fee, documents etc
  • Applicants who applied for counselling but did not get any intimation will be considered for sliding
  • The applicant will then need to pay INR 20000 as admission fee and then an allotment letter will be issued
  • Then, document verification will be done at TNAU and a provisional admission card is issued
  • The applicant will then need to report to the allotted college failing which admission will be cancelled and admission fee will be forfeited

Ques. What is the sliding system?

Ans. In case someone vacates his seat during the counselling, the seat is given to a candidate not previously selected during the counselling. This is called sliding.

Ques. What if a candidate chooses to withdraw after securing seat?

Ans. If an applicant chooses to withdraw his candidature, then his admission fee will be considered forfeit and the applicant will not be allowed to apply for the counselling again.

Ques. What are the cons of discontinuing the course?

Ans. If a candidate discontinues the course after the first year, he’ll be liable to pay INR 2 lakhs. This is not applicable for management quota.

Ques. Can ICAR applicants apply for admission?

Ans. Yes, around 15% seats in the University are filled through ICAR which are kept separate from the TNAU counselling process.
