Master of Fine Arts (MFA): Admission Process

Admission to MFA Degree programme is either based on an Entrance Exam and/or Merit marks in qualifying examination followed by a personal interview. Few colleges taking Entrance Exam for Fine Arts are Banaras Hindu UniversityMahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith and Aligarh Muslim University.

Most of the application forms of entrance exams are available after March, and the entrance exam occurs usually after May. The admission process takes place until June, and results are announced in July or August.

It is suggested to have a portfolio with you at the time of the interview so that the panel can see your work and judge your skills.

The main eligibility for pursuing Master of Fine Arts or MFA course is a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from a recognized institute or college. 

A minimum of 50% marks should have been obtained. Some colleges like Jamia Millia Islamia require at least 60% in graduation. Therefore, the minimum percentage range is between 45-60% depending upon the minimum criteria set in different colleges.

  • After checking that you are eligible to apply for MFA program, you should start working on your personal interview round.
  • The basic selection procedure is the performance in the qualifying exams, followed by a personal interview in which the panel will judge your interests and skills. Hence, you should have your portfolio with you at that time.
