What is a Good TOEFL Score for Scholarships?

A minimum TOEFL score of 84 is considered a good TOEFL score for scholarships. The higher the score, the better will be for the candidates to obtain the TOEFL scholarships as well.

Types of ETS TOEFL Scholarships

TOEFL exam scholarships are offered by ETS that sponsors many scholars that have appeared for TOEFL exam. These ETS TOEFL scholarships provide candidates with opportunities to research and travel. Provided below are the types of TOEFL scholarship programs that candidates can avail upon scoring good in TOEFL exam pattern.

TOEFL Grants

TOEFL Grants are a special type of TOEFL scholarship 2021. TOEFL Grants are offered upon conducting research specifically on behalf of ETS. These TOEFL IBT scholarships support research into the effectiveness of TOEFL exam.   • English-Language Researcher/Practitioner Grant Program: This TOEFL scholarship program enables candidates to get involved with promoting English language learning. The objective of this ETS TOEFL scholarship is to provide language teachers. The application process for this scholarship includes:

Applications that employ diverse and innovative research methodologies are encouraged, as are those focused on the TOEFL Essentials test. This TOEFL scholarship amount can go upto 100,000 USD.
  • TOEFL Young Students Series Research Program: This scholarship based on TOEFL score provides research grants for graduate students. The evaluation of this TOEFL scholarship amount can go up to 5,000 USD.

TOEFL Awards

Scholarships for TOEFL exams are provided to scholars in the form of TOEFL awards. TOEFL awards allow candidates with prestigious recognition and money. Candidates should be aware that each of the opportunity has a minimum TOEFL score for scholarship. TOEFL awards provides candidates with below mentioned appreciation;

  • Jacqueline Ross TOEFL Dissertation Award: This TOEFL exam scholarship can be availed by test takers who are researching second/foreign language tests and their developments. The amount that candidates are granted in this scholarship TOEFL is USD 2,500. To avail this TOEFL IBT scholarship, candidates must ensure the dates for application procedure. The application dates are yet to be announced by ETS for the 2022 session.

TOEFL Awards by Nomination

The TOEFL IBT scholarship offered for this segment is; Samuel J. Messick Lecture Award. This particular TOEFL scholarship program is offered based on nomination procedures. This scholarship for TOEFL exam can be availed by test takers that present a major address at the Language Testing Research Colloquium, and the International Language Testing Association. The TOEFL scholarship award is USD 1,000.

TOEFL Award by TESOL

This TOEFL scholarship program can be availed by candidates on the basis of TESOL’s application review. This scholarship program motivates students to participate in the international TESOL Convention. This TOEFL scholarship amount is 2,500 USD.

Eligibility Criteria for TOEFL Scholarship

TOEFL scholarships can be availed upon successful completion of 10+2 from a recognized institute. Moreover, candidates along with minimum score for TOEFL for scholarships must have a passport. Provided below are criteria for eligibility of TOEFL scholarship for Indian students:

  • Need to reside in India at the time of filling application
  • Apply to university under the TOEFL destination search
  • GPA of 80/100 or 3.0 is necessary
  • Necessity for a valid TOEFL score report

Candidates should keep in mind that TOEFL score for scholarship varies according to the program applied for. Each of the mentioned TOEFL scholarship program has a different eligibility criteria as provided below:

  • TOEFL Research Grants: Offers limited amounts of grants to candidates pursuing doctoral research on a foreign language or having an approved dissertation proposal.

TOEFL scholarship program offered to the English language researcher/practitioner grant program are:

  1. Must attend 60 classes during data collection period
  2. Must have minimum of 15 students per class
  3. Must have taught students the English language for 5 years using the TOEFL

The eligibility criteria for TOEFL Committee of Examiners research programs is as mentioned below:

  1. Applicable to staff or faculties availing from non-profit organizations
  2. Research should be conducted on the stated research topics
  • TOEFL Young Students Services (YSS) Research Grants: Candidates should be aware that eligibility criteria for this ETS TOEFL scholarship are;
  1. Candidates must possess research on YSS topics.
  2. Need to show proficiency in English language.
  • TOEFL Awards by Application: The Jacqueline Ross Dissertation Award, a TOEFL test scholarship, is offered to students who have published acceptable research within the past three years. The dissertation should be written in English.
  • TOEFL Awards by Nomination: The Samuel J. Merrick Memorial Lecture Award, a TOEFL test scholarship, is offered to individuals whose names are submitted as suggestions.
  • TESOL Award: Candidates must be TESOL members living outside of Canada and the United States to be eligible for this TOEFL exam funding. They must also be presenting for the first time at the International TESOL Convention.
