German studies is the German language and literature in the past and present. In accordance with this definition of subject, there are two major sub-disciplines of German studies, namely linguistics and literary studies.
In addition, there is the didactics of German language and literature, i.e. the discipline that deals with the teaching of German and its literature.

If Student is attending to"Studienkolleg", in order to prepare for the university assessment exam.
Students need to take a DSH-Exam (German as a Foreign Language exam).
In order to be able to start the master's degree, a successfully completed first degree (usually a bachelor's degree in geography or a comparable degree) is required.
