  • Amsterdam UMC has identified cancer research as one of its core research areas. The Cancer Center Amsterdam (CCA) works in close collaboration with international and national centers of excellence in the area of Oncology, such as the Dutch Cancer Institute. The Master Oncology aims to transfer the unique combination of translational Oncology research to the next generation of students. Students will be trained in state-of-the-art techniques in cancer research and therapy in a challenging environment by experts in the field. Students will become an MSc in Oncology with in-depth knowledge, attitudes, and skills in the field of cancer research. This includes the development, execution, organization, and evaluation of scientific research.
  • The program:
    • is designed to equip the student to become the next generation of scientists who are eager to understand the causes of cancer and develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic modalities;
    • offers a small scale program providing personal attention and guidance;
    • is developed by passionate clinical and preclinical scientists who are active in the field of Oncology;
    • is unique and teaches from the perspective of translational research.
  • The Master Oncology aims to train Bio-medically oriented Bachelors and related Bachelors in Life Sciences to become independent researchers with in-depth knowledge in the field of Oncology.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited research university including at least three full years of academic study amounting to a minimum of 180 ECTS or equivalent.
  • For a bachelor’s degree from an institute of higher education (HBO/HLO), you need 240EC (4 years of study).
  • Academic Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, Medicine or comparable.
  • Well-developed academic skills including writing and presenting skills, the ability to evaluate and apply knowledge, and the ability to engage in critical thinking.
  • Basic knowledge of Molecular Biology, Oncology & Immunology.
  • Research Laboratory skills (a bachelor internship of > 12 EC).
  • Pass the admission assessment test of the program.

Indian Eligibility:

  • VU Amsterdam requires international students to pass an English language proficiency test. Exceptions are made for students:

    • who have obtained an International Baccalaureate or European Baccalaureate diploma.
    • who have completed their education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, or Australia.
  • TOEFL and IELTS tests must have been completed no more than two years before 1st September of the year in which your course starts.
  • Note: TOEFL MyBestScore is not accepted.

International students hailing from non-English speaking countries also need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
