What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"Preparation of academic schedule, guided by our principal and under the regulations of Anna University"

Being the head of the department, my prime roles are preparing the academic schedule with the guidance of our Principal under the regulation of Anna University. It includes activities such as timetable preparation, Syllabus completion and moulding the students into dignified professionals.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“Regular organization of class committee meetings for grievance redressal”

Our class committee meets every 15 days with students to discuss academics and non-academics issues. Our goal is to identify the gaps and take the necessary remedial measures, such as conducting special coaching classes for academic issues and arranging counseling for non-academic issues.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

4-5 industrial visits and guest lectures from the industrial experts every semester”

Students can learn subjects enthusiastically only when they are able to relate the theory and practical. For this we are arranging minimum 4-5 industrial visits to the students related to their subject, 3-4 guest lectures from the industrial experts every semester. Our college also practices software-based teaching, especially in the EEE department. For core subjects we use simulation tools such as MATLAB, PowerSim, E-CAD. Also, we use the teaching methodology of using prototypes, especially for electrical machines, by having the students disassemble one machine and demonstrating it to them.

What are the best practices offered by the EEE department to the students?

“Workshops involving hands-on training, conferences and internships during vacations”

In our department, we use Multimedia Learning methodologies to improve the quality of education. The program arranges industrial visits, guest lectures from industrial experts, workshop training and internship opportunities during the summer vacation. We are encouraging our students to participate in all kinds of technical events like conferences, symposiums and project expos in the external venues to enhance their knowledge.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated?

“A curriculum aligning with the Anna University is diligently followed”

We are strictly following the curriculum given by Anna University in the mean academic duration by formulating and following the time table effectively. Apart from this practice, we are also teaching the current trend in the industry which is relevant to their subjects. This course is taught to students purely based on industry practice (like automation, design, testing or software course). The syllabus will be submitted to Anna University's Academic Dean and, upon approval, leading professionals will be assigned to teach the students.

How does the EEE department prepare students for Higher education?

“By incorporating special GATE coaching classes for interested students”

A special GATE coaching program is being offered to 7th semester students to encourage them to pursue higher studies. In addition, we will provide them with academic guidelines regarding postgraduate studies. As part of the selection process, we provide opportunities for students to visit foreign universities based on their intellectual level and their interests.

How do you help your students deal with the high level of competition in the outside world?

“By enabling them to understand and work through dynamic industry needs”

By promoting internships and arranging training in industrial settings, we want to expose our students to industrial environments. By understanding the subjects and how they are used in the industry with advanced technology, the students are better prepared for the workplace. By the time they complete their course, they will be able to bridge the gap between the academic and industry requirements. In addition to this, we are motivating our students to participate in the international and national conferences and project expos to learn from the researchers. This practice helps them to get insight into modern technology growth.

What do you see the EEE department’s greatest strengths and how can it be enhanced?

“Collaborating allows teachers to tap into each other's collective intelligence”

The faculties and administrative teams are working together to improve the quality of education by sharing innovative thoughts. As a result, we could achieve our vision and mission by placing our students in Tier 1 companies. The projects of our students have also been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Vishwakarma Award (runner up), TNSCST, MSME, and Smart India Hackathon (participation).

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students?

“Keeping a balance in life will help them live a rich and healthy life”

We are always encouraging our students to become successful professionals in society by maintaining work-life balance. The greatest gift in a balanced life is to find the time for work and physical fitness. Because too much of one thing ends up creating stress which no one needs in their life. So we are advising our students to keep a balance in their life to lead a healthy and wealthy life.
