Ques. Which college is better for mechanical engineering, Vasavi or VNR (Hyderabad)?

● Top Answer By Shreemani Roy on 18 Aug 21

Ans. Vasavi College of Engineering has been bestowed with an experienced faculty and an extremely good placement report over time.  The students of this institute are greatly disciplined as well. The major upside of Vasavi College of Engineering comes with the training it provides. Both on the enhancement of several soft skills and communication skills.  It offers open elective courses to students for creating a knowledge base in allied courses.  The institute encourages Campus Recruitment Training (CRT) following the sixth semester for making students industry-ready when placement offers to drive in.  Alongside many other advantages, it offers interested students coaching for the preparation of CAT as well.  Categories Mechanical Engineering at Vasavi College of Engineering Course Fee 5.20 lakhs Placement Percentage 65-70% Highest CTC 16 LPA Average CTC 8-10 LPA Recruiting Companies KIA Motors, Tech Mahindra, L&T, Infosys, etc. Make an informed decision while choosing between the two. Ques. I got CSE in VIT Vellore and will get mechanical engineering in NIT Calicut. Which one should I choose?

● Top Answer By Suchit Raghuwanshi on 27 Aug 21

Ans. NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.  On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.  The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs. The second path is to go for IT Jobs regardless of your mechanical branch.  For this, you need to start doing regular coding and relevant skills to compete during the placement rounds. Most of the students are placed by mass recruiters, Although many reputed companies hire but very few students get placed by them. Categories Mechanical at NIT Calicut CSE at VIT Vellore Course Fee 5.48 lakhs 7.83 lakhs Highest CTC 20 LPA 20 LPA Average CTC 9 LPA 6-8 LPA Recruiting Companies L&T, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Tata Motors, etc. Flipkart, Oracle, HP, Dell, etc. At last, it all depends on your interest and caliber to do well on various career paths. However, if you are inclined towards CSE only then VIT is quite a good option because placements are pretty good there for CSE. Some of the major recruiters include PayPal, Microsoft, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, etc.Read more

Ques. How is a dual degree in mechanical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar in comparison with NIT Surat (SVNIT) mechanical engineering?

● Top Answer By Sumit Rawat on 02 Mar 24

Ans. I pursued my B.Tech Mechanical from SVNIT, thus, I can only comment on my college. The faculty of the mechanical department is top notch. Majority of our teachers are highly driven. It is because of them that mechanical is the most famous branch of our college. Our teachers emphasize practical knowledge over mere theoretical understanding. Many of them have more than 10 years of experience in teaching. The department has enough professors, so very few courses are taken by TAs. The faculty is very helpful for projects and research work. The curriculum for B.Tech Mechanical is very rich, and you’ll get to choose one elective per semester in the 3rd and 4th year. You can choose courses from other branches as well. You can choose management courses, programming courses, physics related courses, automobile courses, etc. SVNIT is probably the only college that teaches its students topics like Mechatronics, Computational fluid mechanics (CFD), Cryogenics, etc. at the UG level itself.  Unfortunately, like most other colleges, our practical syllabus and lab equipment needs to be upgraded. The labs do not contain equipment of the latest technology. The workshop contains all conventional and non conventional machines like lathe, shoper, milling, grinding, welding, abrasive jet machine, EDM, 3-D printer, etc. As far as B.Tech Mechanical at SVNIT is concerned, I would say it is quite a decent option.Read more

Ques. Should I opt for DTU mechanical or IIIT Delhi CSE?

● Top Answer By Tezal Dahiya on 27 Sept 23

Ans. The choice depends on what matters the most to you.  If placements, faculty and research opportunities are your top most priority, choose IIIT Delhi CSE. In this respect, IIITD CSE beats DTU Mechanical by a large margin. But if you want the best of campus, college environment, cultural fests and brand name, DTU Mechanical is a much better choice.  I would personally recommend IIIT Delhi, as it offers top notch placements. But if you’re truly passionate about Mechanical, choose that branch. Do not take your interest for granted while choosing your branch/degree.Read more

Ques. What is the average package in NIT Raipur for Mechanical engineering?

● Top Answer By Gagan Harjai on 31 Mar 21

Ans. As far as the placement reports say, placement for mechanical engineering in NIT Raipur varies in between 70%-80%. Although the placements are not as high as IT/CSE branch when compared with mechanical engineering. But yes, there is a most essential perk of job security in the mechanical engineering branch which most of today’s software companies and startups lack. Now moving from core to non-core campus visitors in the fields of Software & Analytics for all the branches, the package offered is usually very low around 3.5–5 LPA. The automobile companies like Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Tata Motors, and Fiatwhich visit NIT Raipur for campus placements all give packages more or less between 5.5–6 LPA. Vedanta Resources do provide a better package than automobiles but their package includes a large amount of variable pay which depends on individual as well as company performance. So in the long run they are paid more or less the same as automobile placed people get. PSUs like Coal India Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) which visit NIT Raipur are among those few ones who actually increase the average by providing a very good pay scale of 10–12 LPA. Some companies like BPCL AND HPCL have strict rules of allowing only topper of some branches to appear for the placements. Whereas Coal India does not have vacancies for mechanical every year. Though, the job openings for Mechanical Engineers are always there. This is a reason why Mechanical is called an evergreen branch. Moreover, placements everywhere on the country’s economic situation. Don't go for placement packages, it may disappoint you. Just keep a good CPI and be conceptually strong, you will surely end up in good companies like Tata and Maruti.Read more

Ques. How is the integrated BE-MBA course in Thapar University? Why is it given lower priority than the BE in admissions?

● Top Answer By Dhe Gupta on 10 Aug 21

Ans. According to one of my friends, who is an alumnus of Thapar University, the integrated program involving BE and MBA is mostly preferred by the students nowadays over many other branches like civil, chemical, mechanical, and many others. At the same time, computer science or electronics plus MBA is a good option to take your career ahead as you may be well aware of the popularity of the computer science branch at Thapar University. Also, there is a benefit of not giving competitive exams such as CAT or GMAT. The students who remain in the turmoil of giving entrance exams and don't want to write the national level exams or are afraid of not getting LM Thapar according to the marks scored in entrance exams, mostly prefer this course. Since the course is newly introduced by the university, it will take time to settle and as soon as the stream settles down, automatically the cut-off will go high. As for why this course has low priority among students, it’s just a mindset problem and has nothing to do with the course or university.Read more
