Dr. R Gowri received her B.E from Madras University, M.Tech. Degree in Computer Science & Engineering from Pondicherry University and Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering) in Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry University, Puducherry, India. She is currently working as Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Adhi College of Engineering and Technology(Anna University). Her research interests are in the areas of Database Management Systems, Algorithms, Agent Technology, and Artificial Intelligence. She has published 50 papers in reputed journals and conferences and attended many seminars and FDP’S. She had been called as Resource Person for Faculty Development Programs and chairperson for international conferences. She guided 20 PG projects and 50 UG projects. She is a member of the computer society of India, ISTE. She has 20 years of teaching experience and has been associated with Adhi College of Engineering and technology since December 2016.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Make the students stand on their own feet”

My foremost responsibility is coordinating and overseeing the academic activities of the students as per the academic schedule prescribed by the Institution head based on Anna university guidelines. Maintaining discipline among students. Identifying strength and the weakness of the students. Preparing the students to be technically and personally sound enough to face society and to get better placement 

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and faculty?

“Sincerity of conviction and purity of motive will surely gain the day”

We are providing a friendly environment and following a student-centered approach by conducting class committee meetings 3 times per semester. Grievances can be addressed through feedback. Proper guidelines and motivations are rendered to them through Mentors. Decentralization of authorities among fellow faculties is achieved by creating developmental opportunities equally. Always have a personal touch with fellow faculty and students

How do you make the curriculum industry-oriented?

“Practical approaches are abstraction view of the real world”

To understand and relate the concepts which they studied theoretical towards real-time applications. We will organize workshops, Industrial visits, Internship training, Guest Lectures by Industrial Experts, Seminars, Conferences, and project assignments. The CSE department signed an MOU with industries and also has tie-ups with professional societies (ICTACT & CSI).

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students for skill enhancement?

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest”

Encouraging the students to organize and present research papers in the National / International Seminars / Conferences / Workshops. Enhancing the student’s knowledge through Group Discussion, Online tests, E-Books, Guest Lectures, Seminars, and Workshops. Equipping Modern Teaching Methods like MLM, Virtual Lab, NPTEL Videos. Improving the learner's performance through Slip Test, Tutorial Session, and Remedial Class. Achieving Industrial Exposure through Internship Training, Industrial Visit, Knowledge Sharing, Hands-on Training.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum?

“Curriculum prescribed by Anna University” 

The curriculum is planned through clear flow-on from lectures, tutorials, laboratory exercises, assignments, and examinations. In addition to that, we will conduct value-added and certification courses. Since our college is affiliated with Anna University, the curriculum will be updated once in five years

How does the CSE department prepare students for Higher education?

“Inculcate Training for the continuous education“

We believe that engineers can be better scientists, better technocrats can be good managers and can be leaders of the industry. It is required to have a professional education of these specializations after graduation. CSE Department analyzes students with career choices and trains them with various levels of programs, workshops, seminars for the overall development of the students because of post-graduate studies. Facilitates GATE coaching, IAS Coaching during their academics. 

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition?

“To share knowledge and encourage the participation of Students in competitions”

The Department regularly encourages the students to compete in external competitions (tech fests, paper presentations, and idea and innovation contests) for which students' projects are certified by reputed companies. Regular training & knowledge sharing is imparted in the area of the latest technologies and current trends to improve their competency.

Do you have any extracurricular programs to expose students to real-world challenges?

“Organise Sports Day and College Day for enhancing the skills of students”

Every year our college will organize Sports Day and College Day, where students can exhibit their talents. Apart from that two hours are allotted as sports hours in our academic timetable. We encourage the students to participate in external events. Most of our students are from rural parts. So preparing them to understand the value of their degree. Developing self-confidence and improving their communication skills. My vision is to make the student qualified personally. Creating a friendly environment and providing the needed support both technically and personally to make a place for them to learn and grow.

How does the department enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards?

“Encouraging research publications and participation in faculty development programs”

To enhance and strengthen the skills of our team, we regularly encourage them to publish research papers in reputed journals and train them by attending faculty development programs and Internship programs. We follow deep learning approaches, by involving the students in problem context to draw on current understandings of new concepts and to find the relationship. Use of buzz-groups in large-group teaching to foster student engagement and ownership

What do you see as the CSE department's greatest strengths and how can they be enhanced?

“Teamwork makes the dream work”

To achieve our vision, we faculty and students work as a team in a united manner. Many of our students were placed in topmost MNCs like WIPRO, TCS, INFOSYS, CTS, etc. Every year our student’s team will be shortlisted for the Hackathon contest organized by Govt. of India. Our Students won prizes in many sports events conducted by Anna University. It can be enhanced by motivating the students to improve their competence by attending more competitions in various parts of our country and their skills can be enhanced through certification courses.
