At Garden City University, Bangalore, there is a vast cultural diversity, with students coming from 80 countries. GCU rejoices all the cultures by celebrating them and showcasing their culture in the form of art, attire and food, where people gather and celebrate the importance of their culture.
Paschim Mahotsav was celebrated on March 14, 2018, for the west of India that brings us the best of India that includes Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan. The program started with a solo performance followed by the GCU anthem. The dignitaries for the day were: Ms. Rekha Naik, President of Maharashtra Mandal, Bangalore, Mr. Appanna Sirdeshpande, Vice-President of Maharashtra Mandal, Bangalore and Mr. Abbay Dixit, Visiting Faculty, IIM Ahmedabad who graced the occasion. The whole event was a success in portraying their cultural
diversity with cultural events and a perfect blend of the Paschim cuisine. The delicious main course included Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav, Dabeli, Sev Puri, Bhel Puri and Raj Kachori ending with a dessert.
Mazhavil is the day where they bring the essence and the antiquity of their culture of Kerala. This day was celebrated on March 16, 2018. The name ‘MAZHAVILL’ means rainbow in Malayalam. The day started off with some extravagant performances which brought in a lot of energy in the crowd. The festivity to the programme was raised in the presence of dignitaries like Mr. Ashwin Kumar, Mr. and Mrs. Peter George and Ms. Vaishnavi Chandran. The programs ended with a fashion show and the students served authentic Malayali food. The main course included cuisines like kappa and fish curry, Malabar biryani and meals with two varieties of payasam.
“Unity in Diversity”, this phrase is totally abided by the university, along with the Paschim Mahotsav and Sambhaluru, it also conducted another event “ESHANYA” which is celebrated as Northeast Day. This event puts up the various cultures of the seven sisters and one brother. The event started at 4 ‘o’ clock in the evening at GCU auditorium with an invocation dance performance. The guests of
honour were Ms. Peden Ongmu Namgyal, Miss Supra National India 2017 and Mr. Poirienganba who is the Deputy Head of Musical School in Bangalore. The lamp lightning ceremony was done by the dignitaries followed by various cultural activities. Classical guitar recitation by Dhanapan Keithellakpam, guest performer was really soothing to the ears. The event was concluded by the ramp walk which showcased the cultural costumes of the respective states which was mesmerizing to the audience eye. The theme-based dinner had different cuisines of different states in the northeast like Paneer chilly, Chicken chilli, Watermelon juice, Rice, Momos and Kheer Eromba.
To bring out the rich and vivid culture of West Bengal and Orissa, Rongo Bongo Kalingo was celebrated in Garden City University on 25th March 2018. The guests who arrived on this day were Padmashri Pandit Gopal Prasad Dubey who is an internationally acclaimed artist, Bollywood actress Prakruti Mishra and Ishaan Porel, under 19 Indian team cricketer. The day was occupied with guest performances like Dhak, Dasavatar, Sambhalpuri dance (folk dance of Orissa), Chau Nritya (Dance of Bengal with Tribal and Folk Origins) and a group song by Bengali Association of Bangalore. And then there was a guest band performance named folk beats Jauhar Parivar. The students of Garden City University also participated in the cultural events which unveiled the culture of West Bengal and Orissa. The dinner menu included Macher Kaliya (Fish Curry), Chicken Curry, Rice, Puri, Dal, Paneer Curry and Roshogolla (Bengali Sweet).
