Dr.C.Mathalai Sundaram is the Principal at Nadar Saraswathi College of Engineering and Technology. Having worked in the education field for a considerable amount of time, he believes in providing an experiential learning environment for students. His aim is to develop an institute of prime importance that helps students in inclusive research and development. Read here what he has to say in his interview.

Tell us about your journey as a Principal of Nadar Saraswathi College of Engineering and Technology and how do you describe your leadership style in the education sector?

 “I believe in taking everyone together for the upliftment and betterment of the institution”

My incredible Journey as a principal was initiated in 2017 with the 100 years old TMHNU trust and support with the Pioneer of Trust. During this Journey, we had received various Awards and laurels for our institution, such as Dr.Kalam Young Achiever Awards & Best Engineering College Awards for Continuous three years from World Youth Federation. In Research, we filed various National and International patents from various departments and published journals on National and International. A Style that should be unique, which should be acceptable, & welcomed. We have achieved significant milestones which others can’t even imagine & move close to it. My Style in the education sector is purely towards research and in the implementation of technology that the students learn, and we work as a team & I feel proud to lead this crew. 

What is your long term vision plan for students so that they achieve excellence in their professional and academic lives?

“Our Long term vision is to make NSCET as Place for Technology Revolution”

We make sure to achieve excellence by undertaking following points under consideration:

  • Promote and undertake all - inclusive developments. 
  • Develop high quality technical education with academic excellence and innovative research with ethics. 
  • Create an atmosphere where teachers enjoy facilitation and learners (students) enjoy learning through Foster innovation. 
  • Collaborate with industry and academics to meet the changing needs of society.

With the competition so high, how do you guide your students to survive in such a competitive scenario?

“We make sure students learn and outshine in every domain”

Our Training and Placement cell, Research and Development cell organises special classes on the following topics.

  •  Soft skill 
  •  Regular updation of Technical skill
  •  Encourage self-learning

What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from the curriculum to train/teach the students? 

“We prepare students in all aspects of life”

We make sure we organize value added courses to meet the Industrial needs. We encourage students to go for Internship and training at the industries. To inculcate self-learning, students are advised to complete the one online course per semester. There are Guest Lectures/Webinars, by inviting Industry experts, which helps to develop organization skills of students. Also, we build a Students Association for each department for them to organise various self-learning activities. 

What do you see as Nadar Saraswathi College of Engineering and Technology's greatest strengths? 

“Our intelligent students and guiding faculty forms the backbone for our institution”

Our campus is an eco-friendly campus operational with state-of-art infrastructure. We have qualified, experienced and talented Faculties who cater to the needs of students. We have a specially structured Mentor- Mentee system. To strengthen the students, we have different clubs/cells (Like, EDC, WEC, Placement Cell, Innovation cell, etc.,) to promote the students' activity. There are various research activities of both Faculties and Students, which are carried out. We have a fully Computerized Library and it has membership in the National Digital Library – Delnet.
