Mrs. Menaka T is an Assistant Professor and Head Department of B.tech Fashion Technology in the Rajas Institute of Technology, Nagercoil. She obtained her diploma in Textile Technology with honors’ from The Central Polytechnic College, Tharamani, Chennai in May 2006. Later, she received B.Tech degree in Textile Technology from Jaya Engineering College, Chennai in April 2009 and M.Tech Textile Technology from Alagappa College of Technology Anna University, Chennai in June 2011. She registered for a PhD degree in Textile Technology from Anna University, Chennai. Mrs. Menaka started her career as a Assistant Professor in the Year June 2011 at our RIIT campus Ozhuginasery, Nagercoil. Based on the performance and distinguished work, she was also elevated into Head of the department in the year February 2016. Recently, she is working as Associate Professor and Head of the Department in Fashion Technology at our Institution. Her interested areas are research activities in the areas concerning Spinning, Garmenting and Technical Textiles. She is a notable member of NTA, Accredited Textile Assessor and Anna University Syllabus committee. She has published 3 research papers in both national and international journals and conferences.

What is the latest program that is offered on campus which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

“NPTEL Courses, GATE Coaching, Seminars and more are available to students”

We give Seminars, NPTEL Courses and GATE Coaching for students. They earn best when they feel part of an academic community to which they can actively contribute. Teaching, research and support staff are most fulfilled when they feel that their work positively influences people. Our campus become more vibrant and exciting place if we nurture that sense of community and support staff and students. Because they are so talented and our students can be partners in this scholarly community. They can be co-producers of research, teaching innovation, and culture change at Imperial. We will also be supporting our students’ general wellbeing and ability to thrive to foster that sense of community.

Most students are directed to fashion making in the future and knitting is fundamental for the garment industry. They should focus on finding the college that fits them the best instead of trying to fit themselves into a college. To find the best fit, students need to prioritize and determine the ideal attributes they seek in the campus. In most cases, some of the more easily quantifiable things to consider are advertised educational philosophy of the campus, retention/graduation rates, location and average class sizes. “Teach the purpose of life, happiness, mindfulness and art of living for the students”

We teach students about the meaning and purpose of life. They must know about happiness and mindfulness of the art of living. Nobody teaches us that and we go through life unnecessarily suffering. We are ready to know about how to think in life, about work, family and so on.

Teaching and learning should always be relevant whether it’s related to your degree or extra-curricular activities. Professors and lecturers aren’t just teachers. They are mentors for students to understand the paths their professors have been on to get where they are today.


How did you train faculty to deliver this program to the students?

“Teach Collaboration as a Value Set, and Evaluate Information Accuracy”

Besides the regular curriculum, we have additional inputs from industrial people as current ongoing innovations to technology. Faculties teach Collaboration as a Value and Skill Set. 

Students of today need new skills for the coming century that make them ready to collaborate with others on a global level. We can expect their work to include finding creative solutions to emerging challenges. Our faculties evaluate information accuracy at a phenomenal rate. It is predicted that 50 percent of the facts students are memorizing today will no longer be accurate or complete in the near future. They need to know how to find accurate information, and use critical analysis for assessing the current uses of new information. We teach tolerance in order for collaboration to happen within a global community. Job applicants of the future will be evaluated by their ability for communication, openness to, tolerance for unfamiliar cultures and ideas. To foster these critical skills, today's students will need open discussions and experiences to feel comfortable communicating with people of other cultures. We help students learn through their strengths, use learning beyond the classroom, and brain owners manual. The most important manual that you can share with your students is the owner's manual to their own brains. They hold the keys to successfully operating the most powerful tool they'll ever own. We can build their resilience and willingness to persevere through the challenges that they will undoubtedly face in the future.
