Mr. Om Prakash Sahu is working as an Assistant Professor at Yugantar Institute of Technology & Management. He is also working as a teacher for Education Hub Durg from 2017. He is fond of exploring new places, playing and watching Cricket and reading and writing articles. What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To provide best education and environment to grow”

Being a Professor of Mechanical Engineering I provide tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintain classes related records, and assess student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“Through good communication and follow-up on each other issues”

When it comes to my students, I teach them with enthusiasm and passion, try to keep a positive attitude to motivate myself and others as well. I also incorporate humor into lessons to make learning fun. When it comes to faculties, I treat them with respect and provide an open platform to solve their grudges.

How do you introduce a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?

“Through a lot of experiments and industrial visits”

Being industry-focused means two things: keeping up with the industry and involving the industry. There are great benefits to gain from an industry-focused education that concentrates on both academic and practical skills. For one, graduates have a clear competitive advantage when they apply for jobs. Secondly, this approach is actually fun for both students and teachers. When it comes to motivation, having fun is a core element.

Which practices are offered by the department to help students gain necessary skills?

“Through implementation of learnings in real life issues”

We encourage students to relate their knowledge to new tasks, making it usable knowledge – the kind experts possess. Having knowledge that is relevant enables them to think in terms of problem solving, making inferences, and drawing conclusions.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it beneficial for the students?

“By taking suggestions from students and teachers”

When writing a curriculum, it helps to remember that it's not about writing the best lesson plans or developing a perfect set of in-class projects and assignments. Instead, it's about meeting the needs of the students in a way that ensures the material is understood, maintained, and applied in and out of the classroom.

How does your department prepare students for higher education and placements?

“By conducting industry tours, mock interviews and innovative activities”

The main reason for consulting this department is uncertainty about career prospects. Through workshops, the students are given insights on the topics such as designing an impressive CV with the assistance of the latest tools and techniques, and the use of different applications. Placement centers have a full hold on the training activities. In furtherance of sharpening the skills apropos to recent demands, these centers conduct interwoven training sessions. Internships and Industrial Visits: For unveiling the real-life working and functions of any company, short industrial trips become an integral part of the curriculum. 

How do you help your students to cope up with the competitive world?

“We encourage students to use the concept of learning beyond the classroom”

We provide guidance to students that they need to know how to find accurate information, and how to use critical analysis for assessing the veracity or bias and the current or potential uses of new information. We also encourage them to attend leadership summits, participate in volunteering activities where they definitely get an opportunity to upskill themselves personally as well as professionally.

What challenges have you faced to uplift the quality of education of your department?

“Lack of time planning, parental support and student grasping power”

Unlike in the past when teachers can’t just finish off their syllabus and typically evaluate the students. Teachers have to handle multiple roles in the classroom. Updating the subject to new demands, correcting materials, content presentations, managing field trips as well as bringing in new creative approaches to meet the present educational trends are a few among them. Parents should be the ideal working partners of teachers to provide the best learning experience for students. It is a known fact that each student is different. But problems arise when a specific curriculum is prescribed for all students.
