VVIT Guntur

Mr. Vasireddy Vidya Sagar is the Chairman at Vasireddy Venkatadri Institute of Technology. He firmly believes that quality education is the path to change in society. He encourages his students to dream big and constantly up-skill themselves as per the need of the hour.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Bringing positive changes with improved quality of education”

I see education as a force that has the power to bring change. Our nation has been constantly striving to become strong. Education is playing a key role in it. The advancements we are making in every field have become possible because of education. I felt that education is the field that has the power to change the lives of people. If the quality of the education we provide is high we can serve the nation in two ways. One, we can train the best and the most productive minds, and second, we can help the younger generation to build their careers and lives.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Including every individual in the journey”

If I am asked to name my style of leadership I would call it the “Entrust and Empower” model. I invested all my time in building a team, a team that understands my vision. In one sense I was lucky in getting a self-motivated team that understands the vision and mission. My team converted ‘my’ vision into ‘our’ mission. We set only one mantra for ourselves and it was “Everyone Counts”. For us, the student is everything, and every student’s career matters to us. This single point agenda drove us all these years and I believe it powers our future endeavors too.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“The product should speak for itself”

We believe that once a product comes into the market, the product should speak for itself. We try to take the sense of pride the students have for being VVITians and the success they have achieved to the public through all the conventional media with an emphasis on the newly emerged powerful social media platforms.

In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

“A learning experience on par with national and international institutions”

Any student who receives an education, in my opinion, must be prepared to compete in a global skill market. It is the responsibility of the institution to create a quality learning experience for the students. So, we focused on building a competent Teaching-Learning Process. To strengthen it, we followed every best practice prescribed in the book. But we know that we still have miles to go. We have equipped our students at the best so that they get placed in the leading companies. A group of our faculty members underwent training and started a pilot program to train the students for competitive coding. We started working with ISB Hyderabad for Technology Entrepreneurship Programme, entered into an MoU with Northeastern University Boston, the USA for a Venture Development Centre, and associated ourselves with CII chapters. We have put in our best efforts and taken steps to enrich the learning experience of our students.

How does the curriculum of VVIT ensure the best practice of the industry?

“Inputs from all the stakeholders to understand their needs better”

After attaining the autonomous status we embarked upon the task of aligning our curriculum to the industry requirements. The leaders from the industry made a great service by providing every input we needed in developing a highly updated and creditable curriculum. We targeted updating our skill coefficient to suit the industry practices and requirements. Besides this, a seamless communication network that we have with our alumni came in handy while realigning the curriculum. The alumni gave us very valuable inputs regarding the shortcomings and also about the industry expectations.

What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 5 years?

“Seeing our students become skilled and responsible world citizens”

Without a doubt, our priorities are placement, innovation, entrepreneurship, quality learning. Coming to innovations, we are dreaming big. We would like to see, in the near future, our students and teachers filing for patents. This is the need of the hour. India should focus more on innovation. We share the dream of the country. As far as entrepreneurship is concerned we would like to create more opportunities for the students to evolve themselves into entrepreneurs. We would like to see more students become job creators. We wish to continue our efforts.

When you first came to VVIT Guntur, what was your vision for the institution? Has it evolved, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

“Practices were standardized to evolve continuously”

When we began, we wanted to be better. We focused on academics and we excelled. But the industry was looking at giant colleges. We wanted to tell them that talent is everywhere. We learned that preparing the student for his or her career is as important as preparing for the university examinations. So we established a Training and Placement Cell two years before our first batch rolled out. We set smart benchmarks for ourselves. The team at VVIT was able to reach every benchmark set. We could place 68% of our very first batch, not at all a mean number for fledgling college. We wanted to be noticed by all tech giants. We became India’s top college to achieve the highest number of recruitment in Infosys through their InfyTQ program. Our focus enlarged from more placements to include more quality placements. The shift in our focus was vindicated when Amazon offered a package worth INR 18 LPA to our students. We want to see more entrepreneurs being groomed from our college. Thus our vision evolved.

What would you like people to know about your institution they may not know?

“Student as the most important stakeholder”

VVIT is an ideal place where infrastructure for learning is perfectly wedded to quality teaching-learning processes. The Google Code Lab, the first of its kind in India, established under the supervision of a Google team for Google headquarters, is a place for coders and app developers. This lab produced some of the best app developers, who are currently working in the industry. Very few colleges in the country have a center of Excellence by Siemens. The Siemens Centre of Excellence has got 15 states of the art laboratories which run industry-oriented courses for Electronics, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering students. The Robotics lab, the 3D printing lab, the Dassault Design Laboratory, etc are some of the other unique features VVIT has.

What do you see as your Institute’s greatest strengths?

“Sense of ownership of the students and the faculty”

We take pride in the sense of ownership and belongingness that our students have developed with the institution. Undoubtedly the faculty which powers the teaching-learning process is one of our greatest strengths. Their combined achievements have put us on this pedestal.

Any message you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Dream big and remember our motto ‘miles to go”

The market welcomes anybody who is skillful. If you want to build a career it should be purely on the basis of your skill coefficient. If you belong to the class of the risk-takers, think about becoming an entrepreneur. Currently, the capital to build a business is not money but ideas. So I think the youth must be basically dreamers. Their dreams will certainly lead them to their destiny.
