What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Teach like it’s your last day today”

I am connected from Pharmacy education for 22 Years, 8 years as students, and the last 14 years as an educator. An educator is a noble profession. One does not go into teaching for the money but rather for the twinkle in the eyes of a student when they have understood a concept you taught them or figured out for them how to solve a problem based on your guidance. The educator is facilitators making things happen in the classroom and outside. The greatest compliment is when a student (whom you may have taught long ago) approaches you on the bus or in the market place and tells us something like, "You helped me learn, that is the reason I connected from education for many years.

What are the best practices offered by the university to the students which will help them to gain industrial skills?

‘Practical knowledge and experience are the key factors”

We provide Industrial training and placement cell, where a student undertakes a period of training with an organization usually during a semester break, plays an important role in preparing the student for a professional career. Students are placed with an employer to work on a research project or undertake work experience under the guidance of industry and academic supervision, generally for two or three days a week throughout the university semester. Students not only have to acquire knowledge but also the process and art of learning, and industry training allows them to refine their skills and knowledge. Many students who performed well have been employed immediately as permanent staff upon graduation.

“India has increased its reach to Global Education”

What are the challenges you face to uplift the quality of education in your Department?

“Interpersonal Skills need to be concentrated more on”

One of the greatest challenges that I have faced at work has been situations where I have been left out of the loop of important communication that was necessary to enable me to do my tasks properly. Typically the root of the problem has been a communication issue. To avoid this kind of problem from occurring, I make an effort too early to build relationships with colleagues especially on critical teams where there is a great need for collaboration. I do regular meetings and seek to find out what is coming down the pipeline to get a warning or heads-up. Sometimes despite your best efforts you just get blindsided and you get hit with a last-minute request or deadline that means you have to drop everything you were working on and attend to the emergency.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment at your University?

“Mutual respect and connectedness towards faculty and students”

Students must feel connected to teachers and staff must feel connected to Management and other students. Universities can nurture these connections by focusing on students’ social and emotional learning (SEL). SEL helps students understand and manage their emotions and interactions with others and build the skills necessary to communicate and resolve conflicts.

What suggestions would you like to give to the aspiring youths in these tough times?

“Maintain your academics with everything else important in life”

Do not be a follower. Avoid being part of the crowd. Without being a loner, you can separate yourself from the group of people who are not involved in positive things and still have a social life. Avoid following popular trends that could lead to a high-risk lifestyle, such as becoming so obsessed with materialism that you will do illegal activities to obtain certain things. Maintain emotional stability. Managing emotions is vital for navigating through these critical times that we are currently living in. Emotions run high in dealing with personal matters, family matters, and work relationships; even in sporting events, there have been incidents that go bad due to a loss of emotional control.
