What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Coordinating academic activities and regular guidance”

Being the HOD, I take care of academics, placements, training and other activities in the Department of Agriculture. I am also responsible for conducting different kinds of research projects and practical training for students. I take care of student’s visits to fields, research institutes, universities and agriculture centres, etc. Apart from these, my primary duty includes teaching and counselling students for a bright career ahead.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the fellow faculty?

“Working out for problems and taking feedback”

I keep regular contact with the faculties of the department to know about the current situations and academic dealings, and provide suggestions and solve issues if there are any. I try to empathize with the staff and faculty about the general grievances related to working atmosphere or teaching. I take feedback from them and try to change certain protocols that seem to be unfair or biased by any means.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Educating students close to practical working environments”

In our department, the curriculum is structured in a way where students can learn everything practically. Most of the time, students are taken to the fields to learn the practical know-how of the subject. Seminars and conferences are being organized to introduce students to the latest developments in the field of agriculture. With the commencement of the course and as students begin to gain experience, they are sent to the rural areas to educate the farmers on techniques and the latest methodologies in the cultivation and farming sector.

What are the challenges you are facing to uplift the quality of education?

“Suitable infrastructural set up and attaining students’ attention”

There are some major challenges we are facing like lack of proper infrastructure, adequate experimentation and related labs etc. Without these facilities it becomes hard for students to understand the concept and its applicability especially in the Agriculture Studies. Also, engaging students with full focus and concentration by means of innovative and interesting pedagogy is another challenge faced by almost every higher education institution in India.

How do you help your student cope with the high competition in the world?

“Guiding for future and career opportunities”

Learning and getting educated makes a huge difference in perception of how you handle competition. I always inculcate good participation spirits in my students and mentor their mindset to take everything positively. Moreover, we provide separate classes and counselling to create awareness about the opportunities in the industry and also prepare them for various competitive exams.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the aspiring students?

“Explore more and serve more”

There are a lot of opportunities in the Agriculture sector; I would advise students to explore this sector in all possible ways. Organic farming and sustainable agriculture are currently at maximum utilization. Only Agriculture students do not need to work on farming; anyone can farm; anyone can serve the society and cater to its needs.
