Korean Premier Institute Establish Centre at Hindustan

In a highly competitive field of 85 applicants around the globe, the Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) has been selected to establish a King Sejong Institute (KSI) in Chennai as a hub for Korean culture and language education, the only one from India. Besides this distinctive recognition, the King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF) will provide Rs. 1.4 Crores towards establishing the centre and also to support the propagation of Korean language and culture. 

The announcement ceremony, which was organised online in Seoul, South Korea was attended by Dr. Hwang Hee, Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, South Korea; Ms. Hyun-hwa Kang, President of King Sejong Institute Foundation; Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor; Ms. Sukhee Lee, Advisor International Affairs; and Dr David Easow Dy, Director-International Affairs, HITS and select dignitaries from around the world. The University of Ljubljana was the second institution besides HITS with whom the Minister had an interaction.

Announcing the newly designated King Sejong Institute (KSI) President Hyun, KSIF said, Institutions with excellent operational capabilities and conditions were selected through a six-month screening process including document review and video interview.

Speaking on the occasion Minister Hwang thanked HITS for participating in the 2021 King Sejong Institute designation contest and hoped that the outstanding talents of HITS and many Chennai locals who are interested in the Korean language and culture will be able to fulfil their dreams through Korean language and serve as a bridgehead for the development of relations between the two countries. Minister then delivered congratulations and encouragement to the officials of the Hindustan Institution of Technology & Science, the newly designated KSI operating organization in India this year and listened to the feelings and aspirations of HITS.

Chennai is home to the largest Korean population in India and the county's fastest growing community. Many students are interested in learning Korean for professional or business reasons because they want to work for local Korean based companies such as Hyundai Motor, Hyundai Steel, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics etc and a working knowledge of the Korean language is desirable to the growth trajectory of the youth. India's move to include Korean language in its list of foreign languages in the New Education Policy 2020 will inspire more students to learn Korean language thus promoting their placements in Korean companies. Korean culture, K Pop among others are receiving great interest among Indian youth these days. HITS will provide even greater accessibility for those who are interested in Korean language and culture.


MOU between Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science and Global Cyber University

Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS), Chennai, India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Global Cyber University (GCU), Seoul, South Korea on December 22nd, 2020. The signatories were Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Pro Chancellor, HITS and Mr. Ilchi Lee, Chancellor, GCU. 

At the ceremony, Dr.Anand Jacob Verghese said, “It is more meaningful because it is an agreement between the two universities in Korea and India that was made amid the global crisis of Corona 19.” “Indian youths are very interested in Korean culture such as K-pop, and through this agreement, We look forward to promoting international exchange between the two universities.” 

Global Cyber University (President Seung-Heon Lee) announced on the 24th that it signed an MOU with the Hindustan Institute of Technology in India for international exchange, and that from the first semester of 2021, Hindustan Institute of Technology students will be able to join a Course “Brain Education Meditation - Stress Management & Self-Empowerment” to promote Emotional Wellbeing

HITS students secure ‘Design Excellence Award’ in the International VEX Robotics Competition

An International VEX Robotics Competition was organised by the Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines (MRSP) in association with the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific. The event was held at Manila, the Philippines from September 26 – 27, 2019.

The students of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) received the ‘Design Excellence Award’ for their VEX mobile robot. The winners - Lena Sekar, Gian Carlo, Haran Pragadeesh and Mukesh Sriram, students of B.Tech. Mechatronics Engineering was sponsored by the School of Mechanical Sciences.

Lena Sekar, the team lead said, “the problem statement and the design of autonomous mode of mobile robot of the competition were really challenging and provided a wonderful learning experience”. The project was funded by the management of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS), Chennai. The University is a core member of the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP).

There was a total of 16 teams from Asia Pacific and Philippines, which participated in the robotics competition. HITS Team was awarded for their innovative design approach of robots and autonomous navigation capabilities. They received the award by Prof. Dr. Ricardo P Pama, Secretary-General of AUAP, Mr. Philip Marvin D. Joven, Chairman, MRSP and Mr. Andy Lee, President, Innovation First International (VEX Robotics).


HITS Hosts Zonal Jury of COA National Awards

School of Architecture, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai has hosted a 3-day prestigious Zonal Jury of COA National Awards for Excellence in Architectural Thesis and Documentation of Architectural Heritage 2019 in collaboration with COA-TRC. Students pursuing their undergraduate studies in architecture from colleges in India recognized by COA have participated in the event. The competition is an annual event and an initiative to identify the best thesis projects of India in each academic year challenging student’s imaginative ideas and creativity.

The awards program showcased the best design works from across the country and create a better appreciation of architectural design concerns by making it a public event where stalwarts from the field of architecture choose the winners, in an open Jury attended by the general public. The award will bring pride, glory, and enthusiasm for the students and colleges of architecture and simultaneously act as a public awareness event to promote the subject of Architecture.

The awards are conducted at two levels – Zonal and National Level. The Zonal Jury being hosted by the School of Architecture, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science is inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Ranee Vedamuthu, Member COA and Guest of Honour Ar. G.Jayalakshmi followed by the opening of an exhibition of all entries received from various institutions. The exhibition was open for three days and provided an opportunity to interact with architects, students and faculty and appraise on the current trends in the field of Architecture. The shortlisted ten entries in Zonal Jury will be allowed for presentation recently. The two selected best projects at the zonal level will be awarded a cash prize of Rs.10,000 each.


Anyone can become an Astronaut; Be physically Fit - says Padma Shri Dr. S Ramakrishnan

The staff and students of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS), Chennai was taken on a space odyssey, during the 100 minutes lecture by the renowned space scientist and Former Director of VSSC & LPSC, ISRO Padma Shri Dr. S Ramakrishnan. He was the Chief Guest at the ISRO Distinguished Lecture organised by The Peninsula Foundation, Chennai in partnership with School of Aeronautical Sciences, HITS recently. 

The event was a great success as Dr. Ramakrishnan explained the nuances of space ventures and the technology behind the launching of space vehicles with special reference to our country and the vast potentials for future developments. Air Marshal Dr. M Matheswaran, Chairman & President of The Peninsula Foundation was the Guest of Honor, and he highlighted the importance of think tanks collaborating with high profile aerospace engineering institutions like HITS to harness the innovative initiatives of modern youth.

The student interaction session was fascinating and informative as Dr. S Ramakrishnan gave the following answers.

  • Anyone can aspire to be an astronaut with excellent physical fitness, the right attitude, and psychological conditioning
  • Space mining may become a commercial activity in the future to augment the mineral requirements of our planet
  • Space is the domain which is free for exploitation and exploration by any nation with capabilities and who follow the international guidelines. 

Before departure, the delegates witnessed the display of Asia’s First Flying Bike developed by HITS student Start-Up JHATAYU and appreciated their wonderful initiative.
