Dr. P Brindha Devi completed Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology from Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and Doctorate from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani.
Two years of Teaching as a teaching assistant at BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad campus from the period of 2012-2014.
Presently working as an Associate Professor and Head of the Department in the Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies for the past 7.5 years. Her research interests lie in molecular biotechnology, gene expression analysis, and enzymology and environmental biotechnology. Apart from this she also has complete hands-on experience and troubleshooting experience on recombinant DNA technology, protein expression studies, anti-bacterial screening, biofilm estimation , etc.
To her credits she has 45 Research publications in the Science citation index and scopus indexed journals. Her h-index is 11 and the citation score is 298 which has a high impact in the research area. She can proudly say that she has established a B.Tech Biotechnology Degree Programme in the year 2015 at Vels University, Chennai successfully and two batches have passed out with 100% success.
She has received Vels Seed Grant of Rs.1.5 lacs for performing a project based on Natural product compounds isolation and screening of compounds towards various Bacterial Infections. She has also received a Sponsored MSME project of Rs.14.75 Lacs under the Scheme of Innovation and Product Development.
To her credit she has bagged Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam young scientist award and Special Appreciation award from Vels University, Chennai. She has also received Best Teacher Award from Rotaract Club and Vels Faculty Excellence Award in the year 2022.
What is the latest program that you are offering in your Vels University/Biotechnology dept. which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?
We are offering B.Tech Biotechnology and PhD Programme. We are also offering many Skill Enhancement Programmes during each year of study which will enhance the students skills related to Industry Exposure.
What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt?
This Programme B.Tech Biotechnology is purely research and career oriented. The students can go for various fields of study including Agriculture, Pharmacy, Biomedical and Nanoscience .
What would you say are the “best practices” in the course you’re offering ?
Skill Enhancement courses, Industrial training courses, Employability and Entrepreneurship related courses like Tissue Engineering, Toxicology, Genetic Engineering, Cancer Biology which will enhance the students to concentrate and develop more knowledge in the field of industry and research.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
The curriculum is based on Choice Based Credit system. The students can select their interested course and study. We also offer Blending learning programmes where the students can undergo NPTEL/SWAYAM/Coursera courses which have been taught by Foreign Experts and Scientists from Central government institutes. This will nourish the students' knowledge and their growth in their career.
How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?
Every year the faculty undergo various Faculty Development programmes and student pedagogy to improve themselves in nourishing the students
How do you tend to build an industry connected with this program?
We are signing a MoU with many industries which the students make use of and undergo many training programmes, projects and Guest lectures from the Industry person.
What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?
We have made sure the students should get the current developing knowledge in the areas of biotechnology. Based on that, we have incorporated many interdisciplinary courses which is a major task for the faculty to enrich themselves.
What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?
The students initially go on an Industrial visit to observe the working environment and the technology being used over there. Then they will go for Industrial training and later once they come for final semester they will work with the research project.
