Dr. Raj Kumar Singh has been working as an Associate Professor at Graphic Era University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. He has done BBA, MBA, MA-Eco. and Ph. D. as part of his academics and has also qualified UGC-NET. He has an amazing 15 years of experience in the teaching and corporate sector. He has also published many research papers in National and International ABDC, Scopus, Web of Science, and Thomson Reuters-indexed journals. He is the Guest Reviewer of various Scopus, ABDC, and Thomson Reuters-indexed journals. He has also delivered several lectures at All India Radio and the Ministry of Agriculture in association with NABARD. He is a social entrepreneur, who has conducted hundreds of programs for social upliftment across India.
Being a faculty of Graphic Era University, what are your responsibilities towards the students?
"To Teach and mentor students, and organize business events are my key responsibilities"
Being a faculty, my responsibility is to teach and mentor MBA students about Managerial Economics and Marketing Management. Moreover, apart from teaching, I am responsible for organizing management events, and quizzes, and conducting workshops on research and digital marketing. I also take sessions on motivation, leadership, and social entrepreneurship in various institutions, NGOs, All India Radio, and Government organizations.
How do you bring in a practical and industry-oriented approach toward subjects?
"I use case studies, published reports, and research papers as reference material while teaching the students"
I firmly believe that practical exposure is very essential for students along with technical theoretical knowledge. Hence I use case studies, research papers, and reports to teach students and then I relate the theoretical concepts with real-time situations of industries, markets, and consumer behavior to make my content more relevant and easy to understand for students for better decision-making. Apart from this, it is compulsory for every student to give a presentation on a given company, and then they need to submit a report on the same industry.
Which best practices are offered by your department to students to help them gain the necessary skills?
"Assignments and minor/major projects are assigned to students and we also conduct various management events and games"
Our department has adopted various educational practices like we teach students using presentations and we have made it mandatory for everyone to read business newspapers and magazines. Along with this assignments are allotted to students by forming study groups, and events like extempore, case study competition, business plan competition, smart entrepreneur competition, and business without money sessions are conducted as and when required. Last but not the least, regular industrial visits and industrial projects make our students better and more competitive human resources for the industry.
How do you strategize and redesign the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?
"We take regular feedback from industry experts and people of esteemed universities before drafting it"
Our curriculum is updated every year according to the requirements of the organizations and industries. And we do have a panel including experts from reputed industries, government universities, corporate bodies, consultancies, faculty members, and students. Apart from this, our University organizes open houses for stakeholders for their valuable input for improvement in academics and placements. Almost all the subjects include one case study per unit for better understanding and learning.

Which extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of students?
"We regularly organize sports events, technical and CSR activities"
Our college strongly agrees with the fact that extracurricular activities provide an opportunity for students to showcase their leadership skills, collaboration, and coordination skills, and passion. Hence, we regularly organize activities and programs through our clubs like HR Club, Marketing Club, Entrepreneurship Club, Finance Club, Tech Club, Sports, Gaming Club, etc. And our main motive behind this is to enhance the community service and social skills of our students. We had tied up with an NGO Manav Utthan Society which offers internships and conducts workshops to improve and enhance social skills, digital marketing skills, social science research skills, and leadership skills of students. Last but not the least, our students also do certification courses through learning platforms like Swayam, NPTEL, Google, and LinkedIn learning.
How does your college enhance the faculty skills and prepare them as per industry standards?

Our college regularly organizes technical and non-technical events, workshops, seminars, and conferences and invites experts to deliver sessions to faculty members to enhance their knowledge and skills which results in better teaching, research, and innovation. In addition to this, we provide financial assistance to them so that they can avail of membership in different academic bodies, to attend workshops, seminars, conferences, FDPs, and MDPs.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead?
"Take part in co-curricular activities and management events, as you will learn better this way"
I would like to advise my students to participate in extracurricular activities, event management, public speaking events, role play, and other relevant certificate programs to boost their existing knowledge, learn new things and stay updated with the latest technological development and advancement. Also, look for suitable internships where you can work on real-time projects and utilize your skills to solve real-time issues. Lastly, build your professional network and adopt a holistic learning approach while studying.
