Prof. Om Prakash Singh Negi is the Vice Chancellor at Uttarakhand Open University. Prof. Negi has 35 years of experience of teaching Postgraduate and Undergraduate classes. He has been actively engaged in research since the last 37 years. Bringing the vast experience for the students to make the learning process easier is what he aims to achieve. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Education is the basic need for the development of any society”

A teacher plays an essential role in building a nation. Scientific temperament is the basic building block of innovation, technology, and quality. Therefore, to teach the same, research and academics play an essential role in developing a country.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“We make extensive use of ICT for the immense benefit of the stakeholders”

We have introduced specialized counseling workshops in all the professional and vocational programs. Also, there is a provision of at least fifteen days’ face-to-face interactive sessions where students can resolve their problems with the faculty.Industry-Academia interface and MoU’s with several leading companies, professional and academic bodies for the learners' training will be initiated soon.

More awareness programs in the remotest areas will be organized and more skill-based and job oriented certificate/diploma programs will be offered to cater to local aspirants.More emphasis will be given to disseminating the knowledge through this system of open and distance learning to provide a chance of learning through open and distance mode of education to the left out

How does the curriculum of Uttarakhand Open University ensure the best practice of industry?

“We offer various programs to meet the industry standards”

Uttarakhand Open University offers various vocational and professional programs to cater to the IT sector, Hotel Industry, manufacturing, and service sector. The University also offers programs based on Yoga and naturopathy.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“The programs are aimed to achieve the highest educational objective”

The strength of ODL is its openness, and there is no age bar for the learners. The learners can take admission to any program. This education system believes in achieving the objectives of expansion, inclusion, and excellence in higher education. It offers learning opportunities to those who could not continue their higher education due to various social and economic factors.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“A suitable environment for active academia-industry interface by creating opportunities”

Our aim is towards the development of local and need-based programmes knowledge and skill oriented studies. Also, we want to create availability of the digitized content to the learners even in the remotest areas of the state. We are looking forward to collaborative partnerships with other ODL institutions and partnerships with professional organizations for secure external content experts, teaching support and also for creating quality programmes.

To enable and empower the youth to be able to establish themselves at the national and international levels. We want to cater to the educational needs of the deprived and marginalized sections of society. To provide avenues to employed to enhance their qualifications and productivity.
