Dr. Suman Bala, has done Ph.D. & NET in Education, M.Ed., B.Ed., M.A. in (Political Science, Sociology), Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Management & Administration and is now working as Principal in H.P. College of Education. She has a total of 18 years of teaching experience 5 years in school and 13 years in the field of Education. She is also a Member of the Council for Teacher Education, Haryana State and has worked as a Field Investigator in SSA of MHRD. Apart from all this, she has 4 years of research experience as Research Scholar in M.Ed. and PhD along with 9 years of research experience as Supervisor of M.Phil. and PhD. She has attended and presented papers in 45 National and International Seminars, Conferences and Workshops and 5 Research papers have been published by her in reputed National and International journals

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Education sector opens up new avenues and gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction"

I firmly believe that Education is imperative when it comes to building a modern society and when people learn about different cultures, history, and science, they can view problems from a much-informed perspective. Education teaches best ethical values and satisfaction to everyone involved in this field and helps in the development of society as a whole. Apart from all this, it gives people a chance to mold themselves into more responsible members of society. And as these factors together have kept me associated with the education sector.

How would you describe your leadership style?

"Leadership is all about collaborating effectively with people to complete shared goals"

I believe in a collaborative way of working and I intend to share responsibility with my team, carefully listen to their ideas and inspire them when needed with empathy, thoughtfulness and kindness. Also, I am great at delegating tasks and finding strengths of my team members. I try to give each person an equal chance to do what they are best at and create such a team that delivers a result that’s greater than the sum of its parts.

How do you strategize the key programs for the marketing and administration of your Institution?

"By making best use of our social media handles and website to connect with outside world"

I would like to make it crystal clear that education marketing shouldn’t be confused with education-based marketing as it's a specific kind of marketing strategy that involves the education of prospects to establish trust. And to make the outer world aware about our success stories and achievements, we stay connected with them through college social media handles and websites. 

How studying in your college would be beneficial for students?

"Students will receive employment oriented education and global learning opportunities here"

We provide best quality education with emphasis on practical skills and our courses are student centric as our main objective is to inculcate best technical, creative and social skills in students using different educational strategies. Also, our college regularly organizes various extracurricular activities and events like sports and music events, dance competitions and activities along with studies. Last but not the least, we have included the latest technologies in our curriculum in accordance with changing trends and also to offer skill oriented education to students.

How does the curriculum of your Institution is aligned with industry and societal needs?

I firmly believe that a diverse culture of students is very beneficial as it offers the best academic and social experiences to students and also helps them to develop a bright future for themselves. It also enables students to work with people of other races, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds and challenge the views they are accustomed to, this ultimately leads to greater awareness, understanding, and acceptance of differing beliefs and customs in students. 

Therefore, our institution sees the cultural diversity of students as a major factor to enrich the educational experience of students and improve their communication and thought processing skills. And we believe in breaking typical stereotypes to make our students good citizens so that they can become more accepting, tolerant, and thoughtful members of society. Being the Principal, what are your roles and responsibilities for the Institution and students?

"I am responsible to mediate between students, teachers and staff members and provide best facilities to students"

As a principal, the scope of my responsibilities is very vast and I am primarily responsible for fulfilling Administrative tasks and acts as a mediator between management, staff members, teachers, students and their parents. In addition to this, I am responsible for making sure students receive the best education, facilities and industrial exposure and my teaching staff the best training programs to upgrade their skills and improve the educational programs of our college. And for the same reasons, I am easily approachable to staff and students so that they should feel that they can come to me about any issue believing that I will react efficiently and appropriately to manage the school affairs efficiently.

What do you think should be the Institution’s top priority over the next 10 years?

"Our goal is to be recognised on global level for the quality education we are offering to students"

We aspire to be recognised not only on a national but global level for the kind of education we offer to students, skilled people we have with us to teach them, our learning practices and innovations that provide best educational opportunities to students for successful careers and lastly for the benefits we bring to society and the environment by creating a socially sensitive and responsible citizens and professionals.

When you first came to HGPI, what was your vision for the Institution and how far have you come in implementing them?

“To create an enriching learning opportunities and finest quality education to students"

My vision was to create such a teaching-learning environment in college which is enriching, purposeful and provides the best experience and exposure to students. Also, our programs are designed to help young minds achieve excellence in the academic and non-academic activities and also to inculcate best ethical, moral, technical and social skills in them so that they can work with compassion and self-efficacy.

What would you like people to know about your institution that makes it different from others?

"We have best infrastructure and research facilities for students to make sure they receive finest quality education"

Our college offers excellent quality and employment oriented education to students, organizes skill development activities, educational tours and trips, and aesthetic development activities for students complete professional and personal development. Apart from this, we have established an amazing infrastructure, well-resourced libraries and laboratories, smart classrooms and research facilities to make sure students get the best exposure in college itself. 

What do you see as your college’s greatest strengths?

"High enrollment ratio of students in our college and our leadership makes us strong"

Our entrepreneurial, collaborative and growth mindset along with our management and leadership, open-mindedness, planning skills, socializing and enthusiastic behavior of both students and Faculties, strong work ethics of faculty and staff members and community services programs makes us strong. Apart from this, the high enrollment of reserved category students in our college with the dominant female student’s ratio are the greatest strengths of our institution.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education in general?

"Unavailability of qualified faculties to teach students is the biggest challenge nowadays"

The quality of education which higher education institutions are offering is not updated in accordance with latest emerging technologies and educational practices, so that's the biggest issue for both institute and students as it severely impacts students' result and college reputation in return. Apart from this, there are shortages of qualified personnel in education departments, so it also is the biggest roadblock which we need to address on an earliest basis. 

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

"Keep learning new things and stay intellectually and emotionally strong"

I would like to advise my dear students to make themselves a priority and keep upgrading their skills. Also consider all four dimensions of life including physical, spiritual, intellectual and social while educating yourself. Live your life to the fullest, stay disciplined and focused towards your goals.

What are some plans that you are currently designing for your college affairs and students?

"We are planning to offer best global learning experiences, exposure and opportunities to students"

I firmly believe that for an educational institution, it's very important to align their courses and environment in accordance with students to provide them an enriching and enhanced learning experience. So we are planning to develop global citizenship skills, creative thinking and innovative working skills, best interpersonal, ethical and cooperation skills in our students along with making them socially responsible, empathetic and versatile professionals. In addition to this, our goal is to make them technically proficient by upgrading our courses and teaching methodologies.

How do you establish a healthy relationship and environment in your institute?

"By regularly interacting with students and fellow Faculties and staying open to their suggestions"

For the purpose of establishing a healthy relationship with everyone, I regularly interact with them through a trustworthy and open communication channel and by setting healthy rules and a disciplined environment. Also I always remain open to any kind of positive or negative feedback coming from my students or fellow faculties because I believe that's how I can improve myself and my way of working and teaching. Apart from this, I ensure ambiance remains positive for them so that they can share their worries and issues without any hesitation and I also offer equal learning opportunities to my dear students so that they know each one of them are equally important for me and they have my support always.
