Dr. Neeru Sharma has been working as the Principal of Pandit Mohan Lal SD College For Women, Gurdaspur, Punjab. She has done M.A in Political Science and History, M.Phil in Political Science from GNDU and PhD from Punjab University of Chandigarh as part of her education. She has published 30 research papers in various reputed journals like Indian Journal of Political Science, Journal of Constitutional and parliamentary Studies, Journal of Himalayan and Central Asian Studies, Third Concept, A Journal of Asia for Democracy and Development and Punjab Journal of Politics. She has an amazing 28 years of teaching experience. She has also presented papers in 5 international conferences and 24 national conferences. Apart from this, she has organized 2 national seminars, 1 sponsored by UGC New Delhi in 2010 and other by ICSSR, Chandigarh in 2014. She was in incharge of the Nehru Studies Centre run under UGC Scheme. She is also a life member of Indian Political Science Association, Meerut and Indian Social Science Congress, Allahabad. Three consecutive times, she was invited as a Judge in the National Youth Parliament which was organized by DAV College, Jalandhar.

What are the Key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

"Happiness and satisfaction I receive after educating students is the biggest factor behind my association with the education sector"

In my opinion, one of the greatest and most virtuous services provided to humanity is to educate the young generation of society. And it gives me immense happiness and satisfaction when I guide my students for appropriate professional opportunities in accordance with their skills and interests and expectations of the industry and society. So I believe all these factors together have helped me to stay connected with the education sector.

Being the Principal of college, what is your philosophy of leadership?

I firmly believe that the truest kind of leadership is that where a leader knows how to make best use of available resources and people to meet the end goals of an institution and to empower them throughout the process. In addition to this, enabling others including students and teachers so that they can face future challenges confidently and patiently is also the responsibility of the person who leads them.

How is your college more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

The fee structure of our college is very nominal and in line with standards defined by the Government and we do not ask for any fancy charges from students for anything. In addition to this, the environment of our college is extremely healthy, and all students are treated equally regardless of their caste, creed or religion. Financial assistance is also provided by the institute to underprivileged and meritorious students in the form of scholarships and there are special scholarships for reserved category students.

How do the programs of your college ensure the future preparedness of students?

Our college offers skill based, industry and employment-oriented programs to young minds and aspiring students of our society. Apart from this, proper training programs as per requirements of students and internships are offered on a regular basis so that they can utlize their classroom learning to develop solutions of real world issues and also enhance their communication skills. 

What approaches does your college use to teach students beyond hard-coded curriculum?

As the programs of our college are highly professional and skill based courses. And to educate students beyond books and hard-coded curriculum, we regularly organize industry visits, guest sessions for students and faculty members in collaboration industry experts. Last but not least, assignments are regularly assigned to them. 

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the aspiring students of our society?

I would like to suggest to my dear students to choose their educational stream, higher degree courses and institute very wisely. And our college thoroughly analyzes and considers students capabilities, scope of future growth and trends of the outside market while designing courses. Hence we will prove to be the best place to help you achieve your goals. So keep learning and keep exploring.
