Dr. Anita Kanwar is the principal of VES college of Arts Science & Commerce, Mumbai. She is a well-known academician and has a 35-year-long association with VES beginning from Junior College in 1984. Later, she became the Vice-Principal under TV Madam JK Phadnis and became the Principal of the college. Under her leadership and smart administrative skills, VESASC has evolved into one of India’s foremost institutes in various domains and acquired a prestigious “A” grade by NAAC. Her wide managerial experience in the education field has contributed to several institution-building exercises. In her 31 years of teaching experience, Dr. Kanwar received the Distinguished Associate Professor Award from IIT and the Computer Society of India in January 2017. She is a member of the prestigious Board of Studies, Amity University (Panvel) and SNDT University, Mumbai for the Physical Science subject. What is your philosophy of leadership and describe your leadership style in VES college of Arts Science & Commerce?

“Follows power decentralization, empowerment and more values impart in my leadership style”

My leadership philosophy is to create a framework based on values, a positive outlook on life, and gratitude for all. It includes parents, teachers, and all stakeholders. A positive attitude and energy bring solutions to all problems. My leadership style is founded on power decentralization, empowerment, and encouraging everyone to do their best. When you work as a group, your efforts multiply and your results appear more quickly. Maintain a human touch while adhering to guidelines, rules, and regulations.


Being the Principal, what are some plans that you are currently designing for your college, and students?

“Development programs, skill sets and other activities are planned for students on campus”

We want our college to be one of the best in the country. Faculties are providing students with all-around development that goes beyond academics. They must be able to balance academics with overall growth. VES believes in updating and upgrading the learning and teaching methodologies. Additionally, we conduct staff development programs to that end. Based on the interests and abilities, we provide students with a variety of learning activities. The main goal is to reenergize the staff and students in order to improve their skills and outcomes. The most important aspect of all is to sensitize them to the importance of community and the environment.

The education system in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying in VES college of Arts Science & Commerce?

“Phd programs, cultural fests, sports, research and more are available to pupils”

It is critical to develop an individual who is more than just a degree on a piece of paper, but who is truly educated. We have many options in each of the three streams such as arts, science, and commerce. Our campus gives 21 UG courses, 5 PG courses, and three Ph.D. programs. Opportunities for personal development such as cultural, sports, music, outreach, research, skill development, etc. are provided to students. In comparison to foreign universities, the cost of education in India is very low. One takes great pride in working for and contributing to the advancement of one's own country.


Will you please throw some light on extracurricular activities conducted at the college?

“Activities such as Fine Arts, Literary Arts, and Performing Arts are organized on campus”

Students at VES are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities and cultural events at the college. Some of the key highlights include a zero-hour slot every Saturday. We conduct and plan activities such as Fine Arts, Literary Arts, and Performing Arts. Our campus has a three-day annual event called Talentia which brings with it a youthful exuberance. The intercollegiate fest organized by departments is supported by free music and sports coaching. Other outreach activities include guest lectures, industry visits, interaction with industry experts, exhibitions, Science Mela, NSS, and DLLE. Every year, many students compete in intercollegiate events organized by other colleges and win the Best College Award for winning the most prizes. We also won prizes at the University level cultural event. Our student, Mr. Maheshwar Ujagare, was named Mr. University for 2019.
