Dr. Pramod Kumar is the President at International School of Business & Media (ISB&M) Kolkata. He is a dynamic leader who believes in learning through practical experiences and the same he tries to bring into practice. Dr. Pramod Kumar holds a Ph.D in Economics and has a total of 31 years of experience. Read here what he has to say in his interview.

Tell us about your experience in the education industry?

“To empower young minds keeps me contented”

As my experience is concerned, it comes naturally to me because I have been a professor throughout my life. It’s a great feeling that you get to empower several thousand students over the years. So basically, this industry enables us to see the result of our effort in a concise period. I have always enjoyed this industry.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

“I believe in ownership”

I always take ownership of the situation. I deep dive with the concerned person to understand the actual issue, and I try to understand the glitch in the system to be sorted for once and all. And that’s why I always try to establish one on one relationship with my colleagues. The only mantra of leadership is “walk the talk.” 

What is your belief about empowering people and creating identity?

“It is essential to create identity”

I believe in creating the campus’s legacy, its own identity. So I try to standardize the processes, and every standardization has its specification. The essential benchmark must be met while making the processes. To motivate the team, I religiously believe in culture, Creating a strong culture, culture of strength, high-performance culture, culture of accomplishment, and accountability. So if I believe in this, then I pursue it. So, I do it and transfer the same to my surroundings and the people around me.

What do you see as your institute’s greatest strengths?

“Our brand says it all”

I think our name ISBM, itself is our strength. While getting admitted here, every student knows that he/she will have a promising career irrespective of anything. And I have reasons behind this confidence. Because as I already have mentioned, Because we have a very robust faculty here. Their experience and knowledge always strengthen us to do better in life. Other strengths are our infrastructure and culture, which enable our students to be the best fit in any industry, anywhere.

What is your idea of ideal school and environment?

“One word, Liberal”

One person can't decide the way of living for another. It's always an adult's choice. I definitely would like to mention here that one must have the liberty to live the way he wants but definitely with discipline. So anything wrong with your learning is lacking discipline. So any institution should focus on that only. And I feel this is how we can make an opinionated, firm, and mentally stable generation. 

What do you think should be your University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“We have our internal benchmarks through which we are trying to achieve excellence”

We have internally set some benchmarks, which we are trying to accomplish as soon as possible. We have benchmarks in academics, which we are trying to touch to the global level of academics. If faculty is essential for our reputation, we focus on having even more qualified faculty with us. It will help raise the bar of quality education. We have our benchmarks, which we are trying hard to achieve as soon as possible.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Try to learn practical aspects via various sources”

Being a college topper is not enough, you must have practical knowledge also with your academics so that you can excel in the real world and can create your own brand in the market. Another point I would highlight is that because of the current situation, we all have become negative. So don't overthink. Be positive and keep trying, keep working hard to become what you want to. So just enjoy your life.
