Mr. Soumya Dutta has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Pharmaceutics Department at Bharat Technology, Howrah, West Bengal. He is specialized in Pharmacology and his areas of research are Clinical Research and Pharmacovigilance. He has done M. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Education sector I believe is the only sector where you can have an opportunity of continuous learning and sharing the same knowledge with young minds of the country. And this experience of educating students and offering them an opportunity to live a good life is simply amazing and unexplainable. Teaching has been my passion since childhood and being involved in research work helps me to keep myself updated on recent trends of the educational and industrial sector, and hence I am associated with the education field for so long.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?

Bharat Technology follows an outcome based education by developing course plans with predefined objectives and outcomes. And we have set up an Industry Advisory Board with an objective to maintain strong connections with reputed industries and firms, to organize various events such as MDP and FDPs in collaboration with our industry partners and lastly to inculcate their suggestions and inputs for academic process improvement as well as curriculum enhancement. Apart from this, guest lectures, internships, training on latest technologies, personality development classes, and aptitude sessions are organized by our college with the support of our Alumni. Lastly, students are regularly assessed through a wide variety of assignments and mini-major projects.

How is your institution more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

"We treat every student equally and are opening new branches to expand our reach in North-East areas"

We cherish the diversity of students that we have in our college by providing them equal learning opportunities and involving them in all activities of the college. And we do have an Anti-Ragging Committee on campus to make sure any students do not suffer in any way. In addition to this, we are opening many new branches of our institute in different parts of India and especially in the north-east region. Lastly, our admissions are open for all students be it domestic or international.

What are your responsibilities for the college and students?

"To take care of students academic needs and participate in all activities of college"

Being an Assistant Professor in institute, ambiance of my responsibilities is not restricted to only one role. Because, I need to take regular lectures and assist students during lab time akso. In addition to this, doing research on various things including academic and teaching methodologies is also one of responsibility as I need to ensure whatever I deliver to students should be best. For the college, making myself available in college for regular meetings, events and functions and bringing best business value for it by using my past experiences and knowledge comes under the scope of my accountabilities.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

"We should focus on improving our hospitals services and should also introduce new PG courses"

I firmly believe that we should work to strengthen our Community Pharmacy, Hospitals and Clinical Pharmacy. And we should also introduce the Post Graduate courses in the discipline of Pharmacy.
