Dr. Dharmjit Singh Parmar is currently working as the Vice - Chancellor at Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Jalandhar. Having several years of teaching and administrative experience at various institutes in the state, he has been a member, chairperson and president of different statutory academic bodies and institutions. Also, he has published research oriented articles in scholarly books, and referral and UGC approved Journals. In addition, Dr. Parmar has authored three books well-recognized by national and international libraries.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

‘Enthusiasm towards continuous learning through skill enhancement”

Teaching and research has always been my passion. As an educator, I always need to upgrade my skills and learn the current trends to provide quality education to the learners. Also, to remain connected with the day-to-day developments of the subjects and increasing dynamism of core knowledge. 


What is your philosophy of leadership?

“Discipline and delegation are the paramount philosophy”

A leadership philosophy is essentially a belief system that guides your decision-making. It consists of your core principles, perspectives, discipline and values. When you define what they are, and use them to shape a leadership philosophy statement, your behavior and decisions will remain consistent. I believe in learning through doing. I enjoy delegating tasks in accordance with the competency of the employee and I hold myself responsible for the success or failure of the organization. I work with full team spirit and believe in coordination and cooperation of all employees for the success of any task. I am always there for my team members and believe in working hand to hand.


How do you strategize the key plans for the marketing of your University?

“Developing centralized policy and a digital-friendly brand”

Marketing needs active coordination with the University administration to plan and execute a marketing strategy that fits the university’s goals as a whole. It’s up to us to define what success looks like for our team. We have established centralized reporting for the different departments that fall into a similar pattern of using the same policies. Also, branding has always been an important part of higher education marketing. Numbers showing a high number of applications, quality of professors, quality of research, placement of graduates- all help to build a strong brand. Personalizing communication like email newsletter to understand the needs and viewpoints of the students help us to better target their concerns. Moreover, the existing and outgoing students are the brand ambassadors, they are the face of the University, and are helpful for University marketing. Every problem must be solved on the spot.

Regular guest lectures by the experts from renowned organizations and institutions, equipping learners with life skills and professional competencies are an integral part of campus curriculum. Moreover, planning and organizing workshops which focus on creativity and hackathons to solve interesting business problems and real-world challenges are put into force on a frequent basis. Our University has signed an MOU with STEP-GNDEC, to promote entrepreneurship among staff and students, MOU with IIT Delhi for use of Virtual Labs, to promote remote experimentation, Microsoft Campus Agreement and so on. Training and Placement Cell, undertakes various special initiatives such as Pre-placement Training to ensure 100% placement to eligible students. A Competitive Exam Cell dedicated for conducting various activities for grooming the students for various competitive exams is established on-campus. Moreover, conducting conferences, seminars and webinars both at National and International levels, Institution Innovation Council (IIC Cell), Innovation and IPR, Research and Development Cell, helps building a strong focus on quality research and to handle real world challenges. 


What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Establishment of appropriate academic goals and plans to achieve”

We aspire to recruit and retain excellent faculty, with major emphasis on quality teaching and research as the primary mission of the campus. SBBSU strives to continuously review and improve the effectiveness of our universal assessment of learning outcomes. Also, establishing procedures to assure academic programs and grants that are appropriate to our mission. We are looking forward to initiating a process improvement plan that will ensure all policies and procedures are rational, stable and consistent across all campus entities. Also, to get NAAC Accreditation with A++ grade is our priority for the coming years. Workshops and internships will be the part of every curriculum to give easy employability and practical skill to students.

What plans are you currently designing for international affairs of SBBSU?

“Conducting specific targets accompanied by growth and excellence”

Changes in technology, climate crisis awareness, globalization and socio-economics have made the world seem more precarious. Measurable results take time and international strategies shouldn’t be modified too quickly. New opportunities shouldn’t be ignored but must be coherent. As we meet initial targets, we can legitimately scale up our institution’s international outreach and aim for more prestigious partners, explore new countries, and tackle more ambitious projects. We are planning to enrich the highest quality of education to the students and promote their intellectual growth to make Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, an internationally acclaimed university for excellence in teaching and research.


Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

“Think differently and analyze your thought process”

Try and explore new ideas without bringing your old ideas along for the ride. Never reject ideas just because you do not agree with them. Examine and study thoughts before setting them aside. Stand out to be heard. Be knowledgeable and the sky should be the limit in the intellectual field.


How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your University?

“Clear communication and transparency is always on priority”

At SBBSU, we work hard to create a favourable work environment where each individual is appreciated, proud, satisfied and adds value to the Institution. Faculty, Students, Alumni all are appreciated for their efforts during various activities in the campus. There exists an effective mechanism to seek feedback from different stakeholders like students, parents, teachers, recruiters and alumni. We believe in our students and staff, and allow them to make their own decisions. A Counselling cell has been set up to help students and faculty in solving their problems and guiding them to overcome their stress level.
