Government Polytechnic Ambikapur

Rajendra Tiwari is the HOD, Mining department at Government Polytechnic Ambikapur. He is a dynamic leader and a visionary whose aim is to develop an experiential learning environment. He believes in providing an ambient environment for students to learn and build a prosperous career ahead. Read here what he has to say in his interview.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“It is essential for students to understand the application of theoretical learning”

Being here, my philosophy is straight and simple, i.e. to make the students realise the importance of application of concepts and not just to get a degree/diploma. As far as leadership is concerned. A leader in the field of education is the one who inspires the student to imagine and think rather than to pass the exam.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. What are your thoughts upon it?

“There is a drastic difference in the Indian education system to that of other countries”

The structure of present Indian educational institutions, especially like ours are not at par with the system of many developed nations. But Indian context is quite different from that of the environment in those countries, and blind following of those structures can backfire in the long run for the students of tribal areas like Ambikapur. So the students here gain the first-hand exposure of the technical knowledge and the rare opportunity to apply that knowledge in the underdeveloped tribal regions like that of Ambikapur.

How does the curriculum of technical Education in Chhattisgarh College ensure the best practice of industry?

“We ensure to upgrade our curriculum timely”

Recently the university has set up a committee to revise the curriculum as per the present trend of the industry. Being a member of that committee. I can say that the changes brought in are directed towards the application of knowledge through practical oriented education.

The present syllabus is as per the NBA norms and latest guidelines of AICTE to ensure best practices of the industry.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the College and the students are?

“We prepare students to be technically sound”

Being an academician, my role is to enhance the technical capabilities of the students to perform the application of their learning. Also, being an administrator, I have to take care of the departmental affairs for the sustainable development of the Mining Engineering department. Further being a member of various committees of the institute and the state Government, I have multiple responsibilities which are directed towards the welfare of the students.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your institutes?

“It is necessary to develop healthy relationships and sustain them over time”

The foremost priority for a healthy relation and environment as per my opinion is the beneficial relationship between a faculty and students. When an atmosphere of freedom for students has created the new ideas automatically flow. The students should be allowed to express and perform freely so that there may be a two-way learning atmosphere between both students and faculties.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Students should focus on attaining excellence”

Don't run behind success; run behind excellence; success will automatically follow. Enhancement of technical capabilities will create the atmosphere of innovation, which will ultimately form the way for both entrepreneurship and investment.
