Hindusthan School Of Architecture

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects to make them industry-oriented?

"Workshops and hands-on learning will provide students with practical experience”

Architecture is skill-based and practice-oriented. Theoretical knowledge of skill-based subjects needs to be supported by practice. Getting theoretical knowledge has no value until students can apply it for practical purposes. HSOA conducts Workshops and Seminars for each and every subject. We also conduct several Workshops and Hands-on training to help the students to gain practical knowledge.

Practice includes workshops, site visits, hands-on training, study tours, projects, assignments, etc. The advantages of practical work are unsurpassed.

How do you strategize the curriculum of the institute?

“We plan an architecture curriculum in a practical and developmental manner”

Our goals for the practical exposure for students include providing necessary resources, such as hands-on training and exposure through travelling to different places to develop experiences. It is desirable for Architecture students to have an approach to curriculum planning that is both practical and developmental. Efforts should be made in the curriculum to make it practical, functional, promoting all-round development of students, and preparing them for a career that they can lead independently. The curriculum is updated every five years to make it appropriate for the students.

How does your college prepare students for placements?

“Skill training in communication, leadership and problem-solving”

A practical knowledge application to career exploration and practice. Internships are a great way to apply classroom knowledge to the real world. Applying what you've learned in the workplace is a great way to gain insight into different career paths and gain experience. All types of training are provided to students with the software needed in the workplace and in leadership positions. In addition to communication, leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork are also taught and used outside of the experience of the group.

Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students?

“On-site visits and exposure to software such as Revit Architecture, 3ds Max, Photoshop, etc”

Extracurricular activities may be more heavily weighted as students transition from high school to Architecture college. Some of the skills and qualities a student may gain from these opportunities that will benefit them in their career include Adaptability, Cooperation, Prioritization and communication skills and speaking. As part of Academics, HSOA offers workshops and site visits to improve their skills and expose them to real-world situations. Every year, we take students on national and international tours. As students explore new places on the international tour, they gain exposure to design. Our curriculum includes value-added courses such as Revit Architecture, 3ds Max, Photoshop, Lumion, and Sketch-up software programs

What has been your vision for this institute?

“Educating tomorrow's architects through innovative architectural education”

I envision our professionals as being independent, agile thinkers, constantly experimenting, and relentlessly rigorous. These people are creative and adept at synthesizing technical and complex problems. The budding professionals must be driven by an ethical commitment and a sense of social responsibility. I aim to educate them to lead the design professions in the societal contexts of the region.

What do you see as the college’s greatest strengths?

“Various interdisciplinary research groups and research centres”

The School of Architecture nurtures cross-disciplinary design thinking and its application in the societies of our region. Its Architecture shares a focus on environmental and social responsibility. The greatest strength of our college is that students get practical exposure. The Architecture department provides students with hands-on training and creates a platform for exploring architecture. Our studio culture focuses on application to and influence on these places and peoples. The institute is developing centres of research and many interdisciplinary research groups safeguarding the interest of people and places. Architects and designers are playing major roles in sustainable development, and building resilience to climate change.

What valuable advice would you like to give the students for a prosperous career ahead?

"Never let grades take precedence over practical experience and knowledge"

A student should focus on practical exposure and gaining knowledge instead of getting marks. You can be the best in the world if you have the skills and knowledge. You will be able to shape your career only if you have creativity and design skills. Stay up-to-date by expanding your knowledge. Don't be a graduate, be a professional.
