What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To make them future ready by providing best education and guidance”

As a faculty, my accountabilities towards students are to boost their morale and guide them to be more focused in life. Since the pace and speed of learning are different from one student to another, I try to focus on understanding the students, their skills, talent, memory and treating them individually by providing equal opportunities to grow.

How do you establish healthy relation with students and fellow faculty?

“By giving them an open environment to communicate”

To ensure a healthy relationship with students, I try to keep positive interaction with them by having a nurturing environment of trust and support. I believe that building relationships with students is more than being friendly and familiar. When coming to fellow faculties, I create a positive atmosphere where everyone can trust each other, be supportive and offer help and respect.

How do you introduce a practical and industry oriented approach towards the subject?

By organizing various supplementary activities and professional tours”

As we all are already aware that theoretical knowledge of skill- based subjects needs to be supported by practice. Subjects like entomology, pathology are skill based. We assign practical work to students which mainly includes experiments in laboratories, study tours, projects, assignments etc.

Which best practices are offered by the department to the students to gain necessary skills?

“We keep on assigning case histories tasks and also organize special classes for them”

To develop the conceptual skills, we encourage our students to work on Case Studies and Simulation Exercises. Case analysis develops decision making skills under simulated conditions and highlights the fact that the real situations are more complex than what the students learn in theory class. Department provides internship and specialized training to the students as per the syllabus which is essential to fulfill the gap between curriculum and industrial requirements.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to meet industry needs?

“It is prepared after taking suggestions of Industry giants, faculties and students”

Agriculture course is a seasonal orientated course hence while preparing curriculum or lecture outline we take care of the local availability of agricultural activities and plan accordingly for the practical oriented lectures in the field. Department has revised the course curriculum with the help of industrial experts as per the requirement of industrial needs.

How do you prepare your students to cope up with this competitive world?

“By providing them best learning opportunities”

To make our students ready for this competitive world, we spend quite a lot of time analyzing all of the students, not just their names but their characters, strengths and weaknesses. This helps us to plan lessons that cater to students' requirements so that they can tackle any competition by giving their best. In order to encourage the competitive spirit, small awards, certificates and inspiring words will quite help them.

What extracurricular activities are organized to expose students to real world challenges?

“We organize various academic and cultural events on national- ecumenical level”

We organize an annual International conference, a series of expert lectures from eminent personalities also from our successful alumni. We also conduct various sports activities, cultural fests and events to promote holistic development among students, regular Group Discussions on latest & trending topics which gives a platform to students to explore their inner self. Volunteering and service-related activities are also organized to help them to bring a positive change in society.

Which challenges are you facing to uplift the quality of education for your department?

“To encourage students to execute tasks on the field level”

Agriculture majorly is a field oriented course. Hence, ninety percent of the time we have to engage students in the field may be difficult because nowadays students are very sensitive to sun, rain etc. agricultural extension students have to interact with farmers, farmers won’t give proper response to learn accurately.

What are the approaches you use apart from curriculum to teach the students?

“By conducting expert’s sessions and field visits”

Department regularly conducts guest lectures by industrial experts, workshops, visits to tour and travel agencies and tourism related sites. We train students with exposure visits and practical work.

Any valuable advice would you like to the students for a prosperous career ahead?

“Keep updating yourself and be patient”

My suggestion to current youth and aspiring students is to pay more focus on identifying the problems in and around the society. Once the problem is identified, try to find some innovative solutions which will help in solving those problems and will benefit the society in the long-tem. Hard work is the only way of success, don’t lose hope in life, be positive, create a positive environment and be a social person.
