Dr. Rekha Naug has been working as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at S.S. Jain Subodh Girls P.G. College, Jaipur, Rajasthan. She has done MCA, and PhD as part of her education and is having a rich 15+ years of teaching experience. Being an Assistant Professor of college, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

As a teacher, my prime responsibility is to assess the strengths and weaknesses of my students and direct them to learn the best practices, provide them with the resources they need to be successful in their academic pursuits and ensure that they feel safe and respected in the classroom. And hence I have created an environment where students are encouraged to learn, grow and develop their skills and everyone's opinions are valued and respected. 

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty in college?

For the purpose of maintaining a good relationship with my dear students, I have designed high quality academic instructions appropriate to students' educational levels. Apart from this, I provide them enough opportunities to utilize their skills and knowledge in the best possible way and I always motivate them to do good work. And when it comes to my fellow faculty, we all work as a team and I never forget to appreciate their sincere efforts and amazing work. Last but not the least, we all ensure that we have each other's back in need.

How do you introduce a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

We all know that learning is not just about acquiring theoretical knowledge and to gain a complete and comprehensive understanding of a subject and be well prepared for the future, practical training is essential for students. Therefore, we regularly assign assignments and live projects to students so that they can utilize their classroom learning in real world scenarios, gain hands-on experience and also develop new skills to stay updated with the outside world. Apart from this, these projects help students to understand the industry standards and the challenges they may face while working in the corporate sector. 

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

We first define our goals and objectives while we design and update the curriculum of our college so that it can adhere to given standards, requirements and trends of both the educational and industrial sectors. This approach also helps us to bridge the gaps between students' skills and industry demands by discarding old programs and including new ones.

What are the views on the placement and higher education of students from your department?

Our department provides the best possible education to students and regularly helps them to reach their full potential. And we strongly believe that equipping our students with relevant and conceptualized professional skills, along with guiding them towards a bright future, is the key to their success. Hence we strive to ensure that our students are well-prepared for the job market or higher education once they graduate from our college. And for this to happen, we offer career guidance and internships to them in good companies and also organize mentorship programs to help them make informed decisions about their future. Lastly, we provide counseling services to those who need additional support in making these decisions.

How do you prepare your students to courageously deal with the outside world's competition?

I firmly believe that in today's competitive world, it is very important for students to have the right strategies in order to succeed. And conceptual learning along with self-confidence are two key tools that can help students cope with the pressurizing environment of the outside world. Conceptual learning on one hand helps students understand the material they are studying, self-confidence on the other hand helps them believe in their own abilities. And by combining these two approaches, students can develop the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their studies and beyond.

Which extracurricular activities are organized in your college to enhance the skills of students?

We understand the fact that along with academics, co curricular activities are very crucial for the all around growth and development of our students. Hence we organize skill development programs, club activities, different kinds of competitions, cultural programs, and sports on a regular basis to enhance the skills of our students.

What challenges are you facing in uplifting the education quality of your department?

As there is a huge demand for lifelong learning to cope with social and technological changes, the most difficult roadblock in front of us is to improve the imbalance between the learning efficiency and the pace with which students grasp concepts.

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the student?

For the purpose of educating students beyond the curriculum, I use a wide range of approaches and tips and tricks. And the very first method is online teaching-learning tools which helps me to present my students with the resources and skills they require to succeed. It also enables me to develop tailored learning strategies for each student based on their specific requirements. Next comes the concept of Differentiation, which allows me to adjust the curriculum in such a way so that all the students, regardless of their background or experience level, can realize their maximum potential. In addition to this, I use the approach of Summative evaluation that helps me to monitor students' development over time and lastly I organize a diverse range of workshops and presentations as and when required to engage and interest my students in the content while also allowing them to practice what they have learnt in a secure atmosphere.

Any precious advice which you would like to share with young minds?

As we all know that learning is the key to success and it is something that should never be taken for granted because with learning comes knowledge, which can be used in any situation or circumstance we may find ourselves in. So I would like to suggest to young minds to keep exploring new opportunities and learning new things, be it a new language or subject altogether as it will give you the required confidence you need to tackle challenges of the outside world and daily life. And when we are engaged in productive work, it also helps us to stay motivated and never lose sight of our goals. In addition to this, learning helps us to grow both mentally and emotionally, which in turn leads to a more fulfilling life. So stay focused towards your life goals no matter how difficult situations may seem at times.
