What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
“The contribution to the Nation by enriching knowledge of the youth and leading them to success”
We believe that education is the key to the development of an individual, the society, and the country; hence people with a passion for teaching must remain in teaching and not get lured by other lucrative options. At SBC, we believe in shaping up lives not only by providing quality education and training but also in nurturing compassion, ethics, and morals in our students. And nothing gives more satisfaction and pleasure than seeing young minds being transformed as responsible & capable citizens.
What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
“Democratic leadership is my preference for working as a team with a healthy work environment”
I personally believe in equality and SBC is a small family. Being at the helm of affairs at SBC, we believe and strive towards maintaining an atmosphere where we work together and not under or above someone. And we feel extremely fortunate that we have faculties working with us since our inception and all have a feeling that SBC is a family, same goes for our staff and students as well.
How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?
“Ethics and Moralities are the strategies we equip to accomplish in our institute”
Unfortunately in a capitalist society, marketing has a sole motive of selling the product, by hook or by crook, by big talks and fake promises. But at SBC we feel we are an honest organization and we don’t resort to such marketing / hard selling practices. Our motives over time have just become more concrete and we strongly believe in the ethics and moralities of running an educational institute. Rather than having big numbers and failing to deliver on an individual basis, we would want to transform and help evolve our students on an individual basis.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here at your University?
“The exploration of several cultures with association with international universities for the students”
Indeed there is a tremendous difference in the education system and methodology in India and vis-à-vis other developed countries. We, at SBC, have since our inception almost two decades ago, strived to keep a balance between classroom teachings, practical and industry exposure. Media being an applied stream cannot be taught just in classrooms, and cannot be taught to big numbers of students in one class. You would find one of the best student-teacher ratios in the country, where every teacher knows each student, their pluses and minuses, and try to groom them accordingly.
How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practice of the industry?
“Organizing seminars, training at the industry for students and internships for learning teamwork”
- School of Broadcasting and Communication (SBC) is an affiliated study center for Mumbai for “Makhanlal National University of Journalism& Communication", which has the distinction of being Asia’s first Journalism University.
- The curriculum is designed to provide exposure to human behavior, human psychology, sociology, and other such dimensions, along with regular media subjects.
- We conduct workshops throughout the year on various media verticals not only to develop their vision & skills but also to evoke their inner-self and to shape them to take hold of their life independently and consciously.
Any insights into how your University could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?
“We promote anti-racism and unbiased among the students at the institute”
Being a small institute, SBC boasts of having students from every part of the country, at present we have students from 24 states studying in the institute, coming from different races & beliefs, from wide socioeconomic backgrounds. We believe that education and media, both should be above caste, creed, region, religion, or language, and we would always want to maintain this kind of homogeneous mix at SBC.
What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?
“To wing the ideas and thoughts of every particular member of the institute”
Well, looking at the fast-changing global scenario, it's tough to plan for 10 years; hence we do have long term goals but believe in taking small concrete steps. Bringing industry and learning to them is the key. A small step in this arena is the launch of our in-house production set-up called SHAMBHALA, through which we wish to give non-stop production opportunities to our students and in turn hone their hidden talents and skillsets. We want to give wings to their ideas by giving them a stage to showcase their talents and to experiment fearlessly, being a part of the SBC family.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
“Be compassionate and humane for achieving the heights you always been determined for”
We feel that media is not the only fourth pillar of democracy but this is a profession that impacts one and all in numerous ways, hence one should never give up moral values and ethics to get cheap publicity. After all, being a good human being should be the ultimate goal of a person, and coupled with the power of media, they can bring about substantial change and improvement in society. Secondly, they should be always ready to learn new things and remain abreast with the changing technology. They need to be practical but not emotionless, to be compassionate and humane.
What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for the institute specifically?
“Evolution should acquire pace both in the institution and in the Nation in general”
The biggest challenge is the changing mind-sets, particularly in the Indian sub-continent where the focus is solely on making more monies. Whereas the purpose of education would remain incomplete if along with professional skills we do not focus on evolution as a human being too. Why success and growth have been boiled down to financials only. The results are evident when we see the mishappenings all over the country, every day. Why are the morals going down? Not only educational institutes but even parents need to change the shift from more monies to a respectable reasonable lifestyle high on morals and evolution. At SBC, we have been taking these initiatives and trying to do our bit.
