You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What keeps you connected with the Education Sector and how has your experience been so far with the institute?

"From the beginning my passion is teaching and I enthusiastically joined this profession. That basic passion keeps me connected with the education sector till now"

The work satisfaction for any one depends upon the working atmosphere and support from the management. Bharati vidyapeeth is such a management which provides freedom in working and the culture imparted by Poona College of Pharmacy is not only encouraging the faculty members to work freely but also provides excellent platform to improve their expertise in research and teaching. Hence it’s the best place for me to prove my abilities and achieve academic and research excellence.

Being the Professor Poona College Of Pharmacy what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"My prime roles and responsibilities towards students are to teach students of UG, PG and PhD and to guide them in their research projects"

In addition I have the responsibilities as a chairman of academic program committee to ensure the quality teaching and learning is offered to students. Further the responsibilities are extended to train them, achieve expertise and develop skills through certain research projects, provided by Govt funding agencies and Industries and through various activities.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

Yes, We regularly organize various co-curricular and extracurricular programs to enhance the skills of the students. This includes an induction program, NSS camp, annual gatherings, annual sports competitions, career counselling seminars and grooming sessions etc. Students are highly encouraged to participate in such events and those activities provide them exposure to the real world challenges.

How does the curriculum of Poona College of Pharmacy ensure that the students are being prepared for the future?

We follow the curriculum provided by the regulatory body Pharmacy council of India. However additional inputs are offered to students as per the feedback received from the stakeholders such as industrialists, parents, employers, visiting guest speakers, scientists etc so that the students are provided with updated information as per the current need. 

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?

We have an industry institute partnership cell which is actively working and it collaborates with leading industries. Industry experts are invited for various programs and discussions during which the industrial practices are understood and implemented in the laboratories. Though the subjects are taught as per syllabus the practical approaches are followed as per the industrial practices wherever it’s applicable.

What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to train/teach the students?

Being a research institute, our faculty members involved in various research activities in collaboration with renowned research organisations and Industries. Students are encouraged to take part in such activities through which they are trained in developing research models, skills, innovative ideas and critical thinking. Further the unique features of our institute are, in-house public testing laboratory approved by FDA state of Maharashtra, NABL accredited center for food testing and GMP complied manufacturing facilities which are highly useful for the students to get industrial exposure.

What would you like people to know about your institute they may not know?

Poona College of Pharmacy (PCP) imparts quality education in the field of Pharmacy since 1981 and offers B.Pharm, M.Pharm (08 specializations), Pharm D and PhD courses. The institute consistently keeps its position as top 25 colleges in the country by NIRF Govt of India. Institute has remarkable recognitions that it is approved by PCI, AICTE and re accredited by NBA at 4th cycle and by NAAC at 3rd cycle with most coveted A+ grade. Further PCP is an ISO 9000:2015 certified institute. Apart from regulatory recognitions institute has got strong relationships through collaborations with various industries and renowned national and international universities. Further I hope as I mentioned above, this is probably the only Pharmacy institute in the country that has in house FDA approved public testing lab, Centre for food testing and manufacturing pilot plant facilities. 

What do you see as the greatest strengths of Poona College Of Pharmacy?

Poona College of Pharmacy being pioneer in Pharmacy education in the region of Pune, is known for its quality education for more than 40 years. The research facilities, state of art infrastructure, dedicated faculty team with credentials of more than 1400 research publications, 56 books, 52 patents and more than Rs. 20 crore worth research projects are some of the important key points that attract stakeholders. The major strength of the institute is the alumni spreaded all around the world who help the budding pharmacists of PCP when they enter into the profession.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for Poona College Of Pharmacy specifically?

Considering the modern trends and technology development, it is necessary to update with those trends and it’s our prime duty to offer education and skill development equal to the international standards. PCP always takes initiatives to provide such new expertise to students however the increasing demand for such expertise needs more resources. Student and faculty exchange programs with renowned universities and Industries would help to update the recent technologies. Secondly the outcome based Education and commercial oriented research studies are highly needed to be encouraged.

Start ups and incubation centres are to be integrated with the academic research to implement innovative ideas of young minds which needs more orientation to faculty members and students as well in higher education.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

"My suggestion to all students is that, first of all love your profession whatever you are into and develop knowledge in depth in that profession"

Try to identify your expertise and take all efforts to develop skills in that orientation. Instead of waiting for opportunities one should learn to create opportunities. Try to implement your innovative ideas through some simple steps with proper guidance. Enjoy all phases of life happily with confidence, positivity and patience. Studies are so important at the same time leadership and personality skills are also equally important. So develop your overall skills and be a successful person.
