IIT Kharagpur decides to call 500 final year BTech students to campus in November; Check details

Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Kharagpur has officially decided to call a total of 500 final year BTech students to campus in November 2021. 

Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Kharagpur has taken the decision of calling over 500 final year BTech students to the campus because it was found in a survey that 42% of the students were facing network issues at home. 

According to the telegraph reports, Recently, the technology students gymkhana, the students’ council at the IIT-Kharagpur conducted a survey among the 1,200 odd fourth year students, where it was found that nearly 42% fourth year students were facing connectivity problems at home, due to which they were not able to attend placement interviews. 

Following this, the students’ council body shared the list with the institute, after which the authorities decided to call 504 final-year students back to the campus. However, the students who return to the institute should be doubly vaccinated.

Dhrubajyoti Sen, the dean of students’ affairs at the IIT, said that students who had registered a complaint about facing difficulties during the placement interviews due to connectivity issues will be called to the campus in November 2021, the report said. 

The dean said that the placement interview process has already commenced but the bulk of the place. The interviews will begin in November. So, the IIT Kharagpur authorities have taken the decision of calling the students to the campus from next month. 

A huge number of students returning to the campus in November 2021 will be from the North-eastern states, Rajasthan, and a few students from the districts of Bengal, including Bankura.

Earlier in August 2021, IIT Kharagpur had called back over 500 students as they were unable to attend online classes due to connectivity issues. Following a demand from the students’ body, they were called back. 

In the meantime, the second year students of the IIT Kharagpur are also requesting the authorities to allow them to return to the campus immediately. However, the institute will take decisions to call the second-year students in January 2022, if normalcy prevails by that time.
