The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) is planning to launch 10 new courses under its open and distance learning mode from the academic year 2021. The decision is awaiting approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for admissions to these courses from January cycle.
Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar is optimistic about the proposed courses which will cater to the needs of students wishing to pursue science courses. Karnataka State Open University - [KSOU], Mysore is currently offering 30+ courses under various streams.
The add-on courses include B.Sc., Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA); Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA); Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (B.Sc. IT); Bachelor of Science in Human Development (B.Sc. Human Development); M.A. in Education; M.A. in Telugu; Master of Science in Information Technology (M.Sc. IT); Master of Science in Botany (M.Sc. Botany); Master of Science in Zoology (M.Sc. Zoology), and Master of Science in Food Science and Nutrition.

KSOU plans to impart education in digital mode and has prepared the curriculum for all these courses. UGC is to investigate the execution and digitisation drives planned for the add on courses following which the admission process will be started.
Registrar Lingaraj Gandhi says that KSOU does not need a top-three NIRF rank or NAAC ‘A’ grade for the approval like conventional universities for running courses online. It can go ahead directly based on the project proposal since they are an open university.
The university is already using ICT push, skill development initiatives, and digitisation of examination procedure smoothly.

The new courses Master of Commerce (M.Com); MBA; M.A. Economics; M.Sc. Information Technology; M.Sc. Computer Science; M.A. English; M.A. Hindi, and M.A. Kannada is proposed to be conducted online and has increased its registrations for coaching in competitive examinations like IAS and KAS from 250-1200 in one year.
KSOU Completes 25 Glorious Years
Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) is planning to celebrate its silver jubilee by launching a dedicated website of its own.

The university will be inviting past students and many achievers, including IAS and KAS officers, top government officials and heads in top private sector institutions and companies to offer their alumni on the occasion. Some of its alumni are also top politicians in the State and include KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar and BJP national general secretary C.T. Ravi.
The university will make a collage of the achievements of past students in the form of a book for brand building of KSOU and circulate it across the State. The former students can help build the universities’ infrastructure. KSOU is also contributing to the improvement of five government schools.
