RA
Rishika Aggrawal Posted On : March 17th, 2021
B.Tech from IIIT Delhi

If you're getting IIIT H for coding, then you're definitely going to face some heavy competition although it should be your choice because of its expertise. NIRF has ranked it #43 and IIIT Delhi ranks #58, whereas IIT Mandi ranks #31 the same. Their coding culture is evolving and it can be estimated that their ICPC and GSoC are going to improve a lot in the upcoming times.

Here are some facts for you-

  • IIIT Delhi was established a year before IIT Mandi. It is basically CSE-centered, with marked attention to it. IIT Mandi, on the other hand, has a lot of varied branches and so the coding culture is a bit more advanced at IIIT Delhi.
  • The IIT tag is much sought after, however, being from IIIT is not a bad deal either. At IIIT D a lot of big names like Google, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, and Accenture come for recruitments, although your overall performance will decide your placement.
  • The campus at IIIT D is quite beautiful and doesn't lack anything. It has hostels, recreation centers, dining facilities, a library, and an information center. The second phase of construction is ongoing as well.

Here's a comparison table-

TM
Tithi Mukherjee Posted On : June 30th, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi

The condition of the branch of civil engineering is not pretty good at IIT Mandi. They do not have sufficient faculty and the placement support is very poor when compared to other institutions. You can look for other colleges for civil engineering. If you are looking for a branch change, then you can switch to CSE after the completion of your first year.

No, your career will not be limited to the data science field. The students from this branch have many opportunities as the course is more related to the field of CSE.

As we know, CSE is a broad area of study, and you will get a chance to switch to the CSE field as a Data Science student. During the first year, you all have the same course curriculum to follow and study. Even the electrical engineering students got a place in the CSE field. If you are interested in the field of bioengineering, then you can consider taking a dual degree at IIT Mandi. But there are some limitations since it is a newly introduced branch here.

  1. First of all, you should clearly go through the course curriculum offered at Mandi and figure out whether the offered subjects are your cup of tea or not.
  2. You try to connect with the faculty to get a wider perspective on this course, which was introduced recently.

If you are looking for a branch change, then you can blindly opt for this institution. IIT Mandi is the best institute to take advantage of branch change criteria.

How much GPA should I get in the first semester to get a branch change to CSE from mechanical in IIT Mandi? How about for the ST category?

SS
Savi Sharma Posted On : June 30th, 2023

The branch change policy of IIT Mandi is based on the CGPA you scored in the first and second semester examinations.

There is nothing to do with caste in the selection process for branch change policies. Make sure you have scored a minimum of 8.5 CGPA in both semesters.

The competition level is increasing every year as most students wish to switch to the CSE branch since it opens a wide array of opportunities. The branch change would be easier for you if you strived hard and consistently followed a daily study routine.

IIT Mandi is a much better option than others. They offer effective classes along with commendable campus life and atmosphere. If you are intensely interested in the Electrical branch, then you can surely opt for it.

Otherwise, IIT Mandi has the advantage of a branch change policy that allows you to switch your branch to CSE after the completion of your first year in Electrical. This impressive policy made IIT Mandi stand out from other institutes.

IIT Ropar is also good enough for you, as they offer power-packed classes conducted by experienced and renowned scholars. Out of the three institutes, IIT Mandi would be an elite pick.
