Where will Thapar University stand 4 years from now?

MJ
Muskaan Jain Posted On : August 10th, 2021
B.E.(Hons) CSE from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2021)

Thapar University will get better not just at the national level but also internationally. Most students look at cut-off but you will realize that your JEE score will not fetch you a job in IT and Mechanical companies.

Education-wise, the theoretical and practical system of Thapar University is also much advanced compared to NITs. Around 300 different students have cleared their CAT every year for the last 3 years. Many top UPSC qualifiers are from Thapar University.

Moreover, the college has also started advertising for admissions and the infrastructure is also getting better every year. The fees might hike up in a few years if you plan to study at Thapar but you will also be able to get into core branches as the number of seats will increase.

After four years, the college will probably become comparable to other colleges like SRM, VIT, and LPU.

Which is better for a B.Tech: Punjab University or Thapar University?

GS
Gari Singla Posted On : August 6th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Punjabi University, Patiala (2018)

A few of my friends graduated from both the mentioned institutes and here are some insights regarding the institutes, based on their experience.

If you can afford the fee structure of Thapar university then surely go for it. Also, if you have a good rank then you must try other central government colleges of engineering in Punjab i.e NIT Jalandhar as well SLIET Longowal in district Sangrur, Punjab.

Here is a brief comparison of Punjab University and Thapar University.

Particulars Punjab University Thapar University
Total fees 70.08 K - 4.26 L 13.23 L
Placement percent 70% 90%
Highest salary INR 20 LPA INR 43 LPA
Average salary INR 7 LPA INR 8 LPA

Else, if you want to take chances in the state government college then give priorities to PAU Ludhiana, GNDU Amritsar after that you can try for Punjabi University Patiala.

Can a branch be upgraded in Thapar University Patiala and UIET Chandigarh on the basis of your first year CGPA?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : August 3rd, 2023

At Thapar University, the branch change does not depend on your CGPA. There is a separate process for the same.

  • The 1st year students have to give a December Test by the end of their 1st semester. The syllabus for this test is general class 12 PCM and the subjects covered in the 1st semester.
  • A list ranking all the students appearing for this test is made. Based on this list, a counseling session is held to fill in the vacant seats in all the branches.
  • In case of a tie, JEE Rank is given preference.

So, if you are desperate to get your branch changed at Thapar University, all you need to do is prepare well for this particular test.

Who are some of the best faculty in Thapar University?

Abanti Posted On : February 20th, 2024

I am an alumnus of Thapar University. Back when I was a student, Dr. V.P. Aggarwal was one of the best teachers at Thapar.

Back in 2014, sir used to teach us KOM (Kinematics of Machines - UME 302). I would usually arrive late for all my lectures, and sit for them with almost no interest. But one of sir’s classes truly inspired me and changed my perspective on life.

Our ESTs were nearing, and so those days very few students attended classes. Sir was teaching us a topic and at the end, he asked us for our doubts. All of us were sitting in a disinterested manner, almost as if forced to attend the lectures. This was when sir told us that he had come back to the university at 4 in the morning, straight from Jabalpur.

He had come back specifically for our class. When we asked him why he took so much pain for a single class, he replied that it was duty to teach his students. He said he would have felt restless with the thought that maybe some student had a query that day which couldn’t be solved because of his absence.

He told us that for him duty was above everything else. He wanted all his students to work hard and stay motivated. That day changed my perspective on life, and made me realize the importance of hardwork.

This is why, for me, sir is one of the best teachers whom I studied under at Thapar University.

How do I score more than a 9 CGPA in Thapar University?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : August 18th, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

One of my friends was able to secure a 9 CGPA at Thapar University. He claimed that no extra hard work was required and all he had to do was determine the right strategy. Firstly he divided the semester into two parts. The major and minor courses. Assuming that the semester had 6 courses in all,

  • Major courses: 3 courses- 1 lab+3 lectures 1 tutorial per week.
  • Minor courses 3 courses: 3 lectures and one tutorial

For Midsemetser, he attended 90-95 percent classes, 100% labs, and maximum tutorials. Once the result has been declared he chose an easy and a difficult course depending on the results. Then for the End Semesters, he worked in other subjects diligently. His goal was to score 2 A' in Course Major and 2 A's in Course Minors and Bs in the rest of the courses.

He repeated the same strategy and was able to score a 9 CGPA!

There is a considerable difference between the two branches of Electronics and Computer and Electronics and Communication. You can make an informed decision only after knowing the nature of the branches and seeing if they align with your interests. So, let’s look at these branches individually

Electronics and Communication - This branch covers concepts related to electronic circuits, and their application in electronic devices. It also includes concepts related to communication systems, CORE Electronics, and its application in embedded communication systems.

Electronics and Computers: This branch has been recently started in collaboration with Trinity College and  Dublin. The branch covers basic electronic circuits and devices. My brother is in his second year at Thapar and here is some of his advice.

  • Make friends: Make as many friends as you can, this will make your stay at the institute enjoyable. Plus making connections will be good as you will be known in the college and it will take away your shyness which will help in interviews.
  • Befriend seniors: Seniors will make your college life easier by guiding you on the right path and helping you whenever you need it.
  • Clubs/ Societies: Try to join 2-3 societies of your interests.
  • Professors: Maintain a good relationship with your faculty members. They can be a huge help in your academics.
  • Events: Take part in competitive events or extracurricular ones. It will help you relax among the study pressure and you will definitely create some good memories
  • Attendance: Maintaining the minimum percentage. At Thapar University it is very important as it affects the placement drive
  • CGPA: Always try to maintain a good CGPA. Try to score at least better than 85 percent of your class and you will find your CGPA to be good enough for placement.
  • Trip: Go on at least one trip with your friends.

These are some of the things you should know before joining the institute.

How are the gym facilities in Thapar University?

AB
Aarti Bajaj Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

One of my friends graduated from Thapar University and here’s some information I got to know about the gym at Thapar.

  • There is no common gymnasium on the academic campus, but there are individual gyms in almost every hostel.
  • If you get an FRC hostel, then there’s no gym there.
  • To keep students physically fit, gym facilities are provided. Exercise can also make your mind sharper.
  • Daily workouts replenished the brain’s energy stores and also produced extra energy, particularly in the areas responsible for thinking and memory.
  • Exercise can increase the number of brain cells, which is also essential in learning and memory.
  • A combination of all of these things can help keep the mind focused and increase work productivity and academic success in students, as well as keep the immune system strong and stress reduced.

At Thapar University, the gyms are pretty good with good equipment which are replaced mostly every year if damaged.

Is it necessary to attend orientation classes in Thapar university?

SM
Satyaki Majumder Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at Calcutta University (2019)

One of my friends graduated from Thapar University. According to his experience, there is no harm in attending the orientation classes

Orientation classes are held for the first-year students before the start of the academic session. They are not necessary to attend. But there is no harm if you attend them, in fact, it is of great help and a good fresh starter.

They get you to know information about the grading system of Thapar University. You get guidance about the do’s and don'ts regarding the attendance and the qualifying criteria, etc.

Apart from the academic schedule, there are guest lectures by the director, senior faculty, and by the deans. Hence, it is better if you attend the orientation session.
