What is the syllabus for a BA in English Hons for IGNOU?

SB
Sheel Saurabh Balley Posted On : October 21st, 2022
BA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

IGNOU uses a credit system, and in order to get an Hons, a student must have 48 credits in that subject, which means taking 6 papers of 8 credits over the course of three years.

In the case of English, below is a chart that includes the course name and code:

BEGE 101 - From Language to Literature

BEGE 102 - The Structure of Modern English

BEGE 103 - Communication Skills in English

BEGE 104 - English for Business Communication

BEGE 105 - Understanding Prose

BEGE 106 - Understanding Poetry

BEGE 107 - Understanding Drama

BEGE 108 - Reading the Novel

You will notice that there are eight papers, each worth eight credits; students pursuing a major (Hons) should select any six of these eight papers (2 papers each year)

Students can only take up to 48 credits in a single subject.

Aside from the major papers, there are two compulsory courses in the first and second years: BSHF 101 and FST-1. Other elective courses must be chosen from the Program Guide's list or groups.

Former Student at Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (2017-2019)

IMI Delhi has its flagship PGDM course wherein you can choose any specialization in the second year ranging from finance, marketing, and operations to HRM. Apart from this flagship course, IMI Delhi additionally offers a separate specialization program i.e., PGDM HRM (Human Resource Management).

Suitability: The program is targeted toward individuals keen to kickstart their careers in the HR domain.

Should I join IIM Indore's one-year MBA course (EPGP) or continue working, given the bad placement scenario for the course? Or should I try for better colleges in India?

NK
Nitesh Kumar Posted On : January 2nd, 2023
Management Student at IIM Indore, Mumbai Campus

The placement opportunities for an Executive MBA at IIM Indore or In fact any other IIM are very limited. They depend on the batch itself and may be good or bad depending on the current batch profile and expectations. Moreover, people don’t pursue EMBA to get placed in a high salary package. They already have a job with a high package. What they are looking for is an enhancement of their managerial skills and the IIM tag.

So I will not recommend you leave your high-paying job and pursue EMBA especially if you are looking for a better CTC. Not even other B Schools will get you a high package right off the bat. But if you are still adamant about pursuing the program you may take a study leave I suggest.

An MBA helps you in the long run and not instantly. You should be willing to take the risk for maximum results.

Can I do a BTech in computer science from IGNOU?

MS
Munta Shabir Posted On : November 3rd, 2022
B.Tech from APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University

In this era, if you want to engage in computer science, you don't need a degree. Unfortunately, the Indian system values degrees as well as relevant skills. All you need is a good computer, an internet connection, and a desire to learn. If you cannot afford four years or a large tuition fee for engineering, consider taking some related courses such as mathematics, statistics, or commerce.

You can learn skills on your own using free and paid online platforms, complete projects related to your skill set, and you'll be employable, possibly better than an engineering graduate.

Practicals (Lab sessions) are regarded as the backbone of engineering courses in other branches (though our colleges give much more importance to theory).

Many prestigious institutes outside of India are focusing on "outcome-based education." That is, simply having the certificate and having no idea what you did in college, or simply studying for the sake of passing the exam, isn't a big deal. You must be an authority in your field.

Which is best -MBA in finance from ISB Hyderabad or top IIMS A/B/C?

PS
Prakriti Sharma Posted On : January 30th, 2023
PGP from Indian School of Business (Graduated 2019)

ISB Hyderabad is known for its lack of specialization in Finance. It’s a common understanding now that even if one is preferring ISB Hyderabad for admission, they know that they should go for anything but Finance. Studying some aspects will give you a deeper insight as to why MBA in Finance from ISB Hyderabad is not recommended.

Faculty: Although the visiting faculty is quite decent, it’s the domestic faculty that has ruined the culture at ISB. They are arrogant, pathetic, and extremely incapable. They insult the students regularly and disturb student-teacher relations.

Placements: The roles offered in Finance were below average like Operations, Sales, and BD roles. Such roles were offered in abundance by the banks or start-ups. However, the superior roles like IB/PE/VC/M&A/FP&A/Equity Research/Credit Rating/Asset Management/TAS were offered scarcely. For instance

  • only 10 FP and A roles were allotted that too only to CAs
  • Only one Investment banking role was offered by Barclays
  • Only 5 PE/bc roles were offered and there was a strong preference for a prior IB/PE/VC experience and IIT undergraduate background.
  • One M and A role was offered only
  • 4 Asset Management and zero Equity Research and Credit Rating roles were offered.

So the best roles were offered limitedly while the batch size stood at 900. Most students ended up with unsatisfactory placements. Now you can decide whether or not to join if you are confident to face the placement scenario.

IIM Calcutta has a digital marketing certification, is it worth doing?

SM
Sai Rahul Meda Posted On : November 28th, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2019)

Getting certified from any IIM in any course is definitely an achievement. But the selection process is not easy and requires more time and effort than you think. If you want to get a digital marketing certification from IIM Calcutta, you should have the proper knowledge to crack its entrance exams. Also, you should be confident to excel in the industry. Only then is the certification worth it.

If you are unable to make it into IIM don’t go for any other Institute for pursuing a digital marketing course. The reasons for this are:

  • Colleges offer digital marketing courses for a minimum of 2-3 years. This is unnecessary as digital marketing courses can be completed within 3-6 months

  • Colleges offer these courses are high fees whereas you can learn the course from an industry expert for less than half of the actual fees

  • Colleges focus more on theoretical knowledge. Whereas a course like digital marketing requires a more practical approach. This can be made possible only through an industry expert.

  • MBA colleges do not guarantee placements.

So we can say that a digital marketing course from IIM is not as valuable as one you can get from a Digital Marketing institute. The high fees, duration, and lack of placements don’t make it worth spending so much time on.

Is it worth pursuing PGDM (BDA) from GIM (their new course)?

PS
Prasad Sawant Posted On : March 1st, 2023
M.B.A. in Marketing, SVKM's NMIMS (Graduated 2017)

Goa Institute of Management comes among the top 20 private colleges in India so almost all the courses offered are worth the fees you spend.

My friend is currently pursuing the PGDM Big Data Analytics course and she is glad she took the course.

  • Objective: The primary objective of the course is to impart enough knowledge regarding different aspects of Management with a main emphasis on Data Analytics tools. The course teaches techniques to solve managerial problems. The proportion of Management and Analytics subjects overall is 40:60.
  • Pedagogy: The teaching methodology comprises a case based approach wherein students are presented with real-life situations and have to come up with solutions. Apart from this, there are additional business data to help students apply analytical tools and models.
  • Infrastructure: The institute has a world-class infrastructure wherein the Data Lab is well equipped. Excellent teaching aids are provided and the campus is very beautiful.
  • Visiting Faculty: Industry experts are invited to impart great knowledge and add a taste of real life inside the classroom. GIM also has collaborated with SAS India where faculty from SAS Institute come to college and teach us analytics subjects.

GIM BDA is the only Management program in Data Analytics and has managed to rank among the top data science programs in the country by Analytics India Magazine

Which branch should I choose: B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Roorkee or Dual Degree (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Kharaghpur?

A
Admin Posted On : July 3rd, 2024

According to me, B.Tech (Electrical engineering) from IIT Roorkee is a better option due to the following reasons:

  • B.Tech electrical engineering is a 4 year program while dual degree (electrical engineering) is a five year program. This means that choosing IIT Roorkee will help you enter the workforce earlier.
  • The B.Tech curriculum focuses equally on theoretical and practical learning. This will prepare you for industry roles.

On the other hand, the dual degree curriculum gives more importance to research and specialisation in electrical engineering.

  • Here are the 2023 placement figures for IIT Roorkee and IIT KGP:
Parameters IIT KGP (Phase-I) IIT Roorkee
Highest Package INR 2.6 CPA INR 1.3 CPA
(Highest International- INR 1.06 CPA)
Top Recruiters (2024) OLA, OneByZero, SecPod, SIRION LABS, TCS Research, and others. American Express, Barclays, Chegg Inc, Flipkart, Google, Microsoft, Myntra, and more.

Unfortunately, the branch-wise placements are not available for either of these IITs.

I would recommend you choose B.Tech Electrical at IIT Roorkee over Dual Degree in Electrical at IIT KGP due to the above reasons.
