Which is better, IET Lucknow ME or NIT Uttarakhand ECE?

SP
Shubham Pandey Posted On : August 20th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow (2020)

NIT Uttarakhand is the last choice of the majority of students among all other NITs. It has the lowest ranking, poor placement records, and no awards or academic excellence. It is considered a Tier 4 institute.

On the other hand, IET Lucknow is a prestigious institution, especially for engineering students. It is one of the best UPSEE institutes in Lucknow. Moreover, it is considered academically strong and has earned good recognition.

Check the following table for a brief insight on relevant statistics of both institutes:

Particulars IET Lucknow NIT Uttarakhand
Total Fees 3.44 Lakhs 5.87 Lakhs
Highest Package 36 LPA 10.5 LPA
Average Package 5 LPA 6.8 LPA
Total Offers 100+ 90

Generally, ECE is better than ME but it applies to the institutes which are nearly on the same level. In this scenario, pursuing ME from IET Lucknow would be the better option in terms of placements, a recognition that would later help you in finding a job through off-campus placement.

I would suggest you to go for JMI Delhi. The reason for this is that JMI is very similar to the NITs. The environment and crowd are top-notch. Seniors at Jamia are also very helpful and cooperative.

The professors and other members of the faculty are well-experienced. They even help you plan your career after college. JMI alumni help you out in getting jobs and a decent salary amount.

The table below depicts the placement scenario of JMI and IET:

Categories

JMI Delhi

IET Lucknow

Course Fee

1.49 lakh

3.44 lakh

Highest CTC

28 LPA

25 LPA

Average CTC

15 LPA

12-16 LPA

Recruiting Companies

Cognizant, Accenture, IBM, HCL, etc.

TCS, DE Shaw, Barclays, Code Nation, etc.

Though it is your decision to make, I still would prefer the fact that you choose JMI Delhi over IET Lucknow, for CSE or ECE. Studying in a well-reputed institution with years of educational experience is much better. This will help in networking as well.

Is it possible to change branch at IET Lucknow? How easy or difficult is it?

DS
Divya Sharma Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at IET Lucknow (2019)

Talking about IET Lucknow, it is an older college in Uttar Pradesh. It is known for its branches of CSE and ECE. Also, the placement record of the college is good. For recruitment, companies such as Adobe, PayTM, Media.Net and D.E. Shaw, and others come to campus. The highest package went up to 36 LPA and the average was 7 LPA.

Addressing your question, I would mention that it is possible to switch the branch in IET Lucknow.

  • The branch change choice is given when you are done with your first two semesters (1st year).
  • The procedure is simple and requires the student to fill up preferences for branch change.
  • The branch will be allotted based on a merit list, prepared on the basis of first-year results. You cannot expect the process to happen soon.
  • During this time you have to attend the same lectures of the present stream which leads you to miss lectures of the intended branch.
  • Hence, if you are allotted your desired branch you may end up taking examinations without attending many classes.
  • But you can always seek help from your teachers and new classmates.

This was a short brief, if you want to get into your chosen branch such as CSE make sure you are among the top 5-10% of your classmates, for other branches, being in the top 20% shall fetch you a seat.

Are there ragging cases in IET lucknow?

MT
Mehak Taneja Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied Information Technology at Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow (2019)

IET Lucknow is one of the reputed engineering colleges in the country. The atmosphere at the institute is quite positive and from the reviews, I have heard from friends, ragging is not acceptable at all here.

The college campus has a strict anti-ragging policy and a student found in contempt of it may face rustication. All the seniors are quite supportive of the fact that hostel life is tough for beginners and will help you get through the initial tough days. You might have a small interview round, which is mostly on the fun side, just to get to know each other and does not involve any ragging activities.

What should I prefer: Mechanical Engineering at HBTI, Kanpur or CSE at IET, Lucknow?

AL
Ajay Lakhra Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow

Both of the institutions are situated at a distance of 80 km from each other. IET Lucknow is situated in the industrial capital of Uttar Pradesh and the HBTI Kanpur is situated in the Political capital. If you live in one of the two cities, you can choose accordingly; otherwise, this factor has no significance.

  1. According to AKTU, both the institutes are ranked at number 1 and number 2 in UP, but the situation is completely different analytically. HBTI is a well-known institution and has been the parent institute of IIT Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh Textile Institute.
  2. Both the institutes are government-run with complete control over examinations and the curriculum of courses offered by them.
  3. If you enjoy programming, Computer Science would be the appropriate course for you, while Mechanical Engineering is for those who want to acquire a genuine sense of what engineering is all about.
  4. The faculty of IET Lucknow is better than that of HBTI.
  5. You will have numerous opportunities outside the campus. The placement statistics for the mechanical department are not very good at both institutes, but placement in the CS department is extremely good.

Make your decision based on the branch and not the institution as it would have a major impact on your career.

How is the infrastructure of IET Lucknow? Is it a good place to study if I take the CS branch?

DC
Debdut Roy Chowdhury Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studies ECE at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT)

I have a few friends from IET, so I think I can give some information about the institute. Here are some points to consider.

  • The infrastructure is slightly decent, yet not the best.
  • You will also acquire clean and an immaculate hostel facility, alongside incomparable mess food at a very considerable rate in the first year.
  • However, the hostels allotted to students after their first year are not at their best stage. Students generally obtain old hostel rooms, with a certain substandard infrastructure quality. The food quality yet remains the best, irrespective of the year students are in.
  • The lab facilities are not at their best.
  • The faculty is usually exceptional during the first year, but the semesters following that are commonly taken by guest faculties.
  • Most core branch students do not prepare for placements. Students commonly prepare for their SSC, GATE, ESE, and other similar exams during their stay in the institute.
  • In Computer Science, students generally get placed in service-based companies, with a decent average package. However, students who are well prepared secure offers in top firms like Adobe, Amazon, and more. According to the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered to the students is 5 LPA.

Securing admission at IET Lucknow can be a very good choice. It is considered amongst the several top institutes of the country.
