Which should I choose, IISC (ME in signal processing), IITB SysCon or NITIE PGDIE?

AA

PGDPM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

It is best to either secure a job either at a government-run organization, PSU, or go for NITIE. You can opt for either option.

You need to obtain the best offer at the end of the day, and securing a position in the job sector might be a good decision. Apart from that, if you do not share a valuable amount of interest in the PSU, then joining NITIE Mumbai might be the best option for you.

You will get the chance to witness several big firms visiting the campus, alongside the addition of value to your profile and simultaneous growth. In terms of the technical courses, you should definitely research more about them, as per your requirements.

Which is a better B-school in general, NITIE or IIMs?

TS
Taniya Sen Posted On : August 13th, 2021
PGDIM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

NITIE was not established to compete with the IIMs. It was established with the aim of making Engineers into good managers who have decent technical and managerial skills required across industries.

But, since the PGDIM & PGDISEM programs of NITIE admit students through CAT, people do compare the college with IIMs. Still, in case you want to know where NITIE stands among reputed B-Schools of India, I will say it falls in cluster - 2.

Here are the various clusters of Indian B-Schools.

  • Cluster 1 - IIM A, IIM B, IIM C, IIM L, XLRI, SPJIMR, FMS, ISB
  • Cluster 2 - MDI, IIFT, NITIE, IIM K, IIM I, SJMSoM, JBIMS, TISS
  • Cluster 3 - NMIMS, SIBM P, SCMHRD, IIM Ranchi, IIM Trichy, IIM Rohtak, IIM Raipur, DoMS IIT D, VGSoM

Despite being in a different cluster, the course structure, rigor, placements, industrial exposure, and batch quality of NITIE are on par with the old IIMs. NITIE also has a locational advantage. The alumni base of NITIE is huge and they regularly visit the campus for guest lectures, seminars, and placements.

So, IIMs and NITIE are different types of B-Schools and it’s not possible to give a conclusive comparison between them.

What are your pgdie interview experiences in nitie? Please mention things other than general questions?

SG
Souvick Gupta Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering

One of my friends recently appeared for the interview at NITIE and here is his experience in brief.

The interview panel consists of 5 members. First, there was a general introduction round. Then they asked questions related to the concepts from his B. Tech branch.

If you have any work experience or internship then you will be asked questions about it. If not, questions related to your final year project will be asked. There will be small talks related to your hobbies, background, and other HR questions like why NITIE, etc.

To do well in the interview, improve your communication skills, revise some concepts from your B. Tech, and learn more about generic concepts.

What is the CAT percentile cutoff in NITIE for reserved categories?

AC
Ankita Chaturvedi Posted On : August 18th, 2021
PGDIM from the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2021)

The college does not release cut-offs for the reserved categories. However, it can be predicted from the general cut-off.

The cut-off for the general category usually lies between 97 percentile- 98 percentile. So, the cut-off for OBC can be 90-92 percentile and for other categories, it can lie around 80.

Since you have not mentioned any particular course, here is the past trend for PGDIM and PGDISEM.

Program Category Overall Cut-off Sectional Cut-off
PGDIM OBC 87+ percentile 75+ percentile
PGDIM SC/ST 70+ percentile 56+ percentile
PGDISEM OBC 84+ percentile  68+ percentile
PGDISEM SC/ST 55+ percentile 49+ percentile

Note that these vary every year depending on the number of applications received.

Do PGDIE students at NITIE get monthly stipend for 2 years from HRDM for TA (as similar to MTech from IITs with monthly stipend of Rs.12400)? Any T&C?

RB
Rita Bora Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studied PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

One of my friends has completed his PGDIE from NITIE and as a TA he has received 12400/- per month.

  • Not only PGDIE students but students from PGDMM and PFDPM also receive the stipend as a TA.
  • For receiving it the students are assigned a professor from the college only and the work for students will be on a project or any research paper.
  • The work will be decided by the professor allotted.Sometimes, the students also have to work over the tasks related to NITIE.
  • You won’t be pressurized for anything as you’ll be indulged in TA work.
  • There is a program named PGDIE. It is quite equal to M.Tech. The students of PGDIE enjoy the project for 6 months introduced by NITIE.

However, the stipend for 12400 is paid to the students to get themselves involved in the professors’ TAs work, but the students aren’t paid anything during summer internships.

NITIE offers 5 courses. These 5 courses are as follows.

  1. Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE)- This is considered to be the Flagship program offered by NITIE. If you have studied mechanical/production/industrial engineering and are a graduate, it would be very easy for you to understand the curriculum of the course.

  3. Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management (PGDPM)- This program would help you to get techno-managerial job opportunities in the industry. Students from any branch of engineering can apply for enrollment in this course.
  4. Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM)- This program is one of the oldest programs offered by NITIE and would help you in getting decent job roles in industries.
  5. Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety and Environment (PGDISE)- This program would help you nourish your interest in safety and sustainability. You will be shortlisted based on your CAT Scores.

How much should I score in CAT enough to get NITIE?

RB
Ritika Bhattacharya Posted On : August 20th, 2021
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Some of my friends studied at NITIE Mumbai. According to them, your score will depend on various things. As there are many parameters in which it can be evaluated:

  • Category/Score: Your category and GATE Score and CAT score are important as it will determine your admission at NITIE.
  • Academic Score: If you have an overall 80% and above in your school and graduation, then the chances of you being accepted at NITIE is more.
  • Work experience: If you have work experience of 2 years or more, then you will be preferred amongst other candidates with no work experience.
  • Personality: There are many students at NITIE who despite having a less academic score, secured a seat at NITIE because of their personality which is evaluated during GD and Personal Interview.
Category GATE score PGDIM (CAT score) PGDISEM (CAT score)
General 609 97 86
OBC 473 65 75
ST 345 65 65
SC 317 65 65
Physically Disabled 473 75 75

These are the basic parameters that are considered if you want to take admission at NITIE Mumbai. A lot of my friends studied here, and according to them, it is a really good institution.

Which is better after the GATE, joining NITIE or PSU?

RY
Ranjit Yadav Posted On : August 28th, 2021
PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2020)

NITIE is the best option to go for after clearing GATE.

Most people opt for PSUs because it allows earning money directly without having to study further. But, in the long run, NITIE provides more diversified career opportunities. You will also find students at NITIE having experience working at PSU for a year or two.

For summer internships and final placements, many big companies such as Walmart, Uber, Flipkart, Amazon, Hindustan Unilever, BMW, Maersk, Shell, Nestle, P&G, Yes Bank, etc. come to the campus.

Placements are really good and like any other top B-school in India. The average package is around 18 LPA. If you are a hard-working person, your career and salary both will have a steep growth. Working at a PSU will take you almost 10 to 12 years even to double your initial salary.

The workload is almost similar to a PSU employee of the oil marketing sector such as IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, etc., after graduating from NITIE. I am not even exaggerating, the workload at these PSUs is heavy.
