Here is the profile of one of my friends, who got admission to NITIE PGDIE a few years back.
She was shortlisted for PGDIE in the very first round. As per the recent year trends, the NITIE PGDIE Gate cutoff stays around 717.
A friend of mine appeared for the PGDIE interview of NITIE Mumbai, a few years back. He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate. Around 70% of the interview questions were about his profile and his B.Tech project. There were some questions from his graduation subjects as well. During the interview, they often ask technical questions like, ‘Why NITIE?’, ‘What is your career goal?’, etc.
NITIE selection criteria assign more weightage to the GATE score. If you have a decent GATE score, you will have an edge over others. But don’t take the GD-PI round lightly.
No, 27 isn’t too late to join NITIE. Usually, NITIE PGDIE batch profiles include people with ages 22-30. You won’t be treated any differently by the faculty or recruiters because of your age.
NITIE placement trends show that experienced students usually have a better chance at Ecommerce, Finance, Manufacturing, and Consulting companies. Naturally, there are exceptions.
NITIE offers admission to its Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) program based on a candidate's performance in either the Common Admission Test (CAT) or the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
Candidates who have a valid GATE score are eligible to apply for admission to the PGDIE program. However, in addition to GATE scores, candidates can also submit their CAT scores to be considered for admission.
NITIE uses a merit-based selection process that takes into account a candidate's academic performance, work experience, CAT/GATE scores, group discussion, and personal interviews. The weightage given to each of these factors may vary from year to year.
Candidates who have qualified for either the CAT or GATE exams are eligible to apply for admission to NITIE's PGDIE program. The institute takes a holistic approach to admissions, and the final selection is based on several factors, including a candidate's performance in the qualifying exams, work experience, and performance in group discussions and personal interview rounds.

As this is a management level program it does not really matter whether you are from mechanical engineering or industrial engineering or some other. The college gives equal opportunities to all. After you reach a certain level, technical expertise becomes less and less relevant.
Among the mentioned programs PGDMM and PGDPM are comparatively newer and provide some really good courses for students with computer and IT backgrounds. If you want to take the GATE exam and get into NITIE through PGDIE then in the 2nd year of your course you will get a wide range of electives available. Here are some of the electives.
Most of the courses here are Computer sector-related and related to the programming and software side whereas some of them are related to the IT sector and mainly deal with the hardware side.
But make a note that IE is not an M.Tech course. It is a management course. So, you will get placed in management roles post your degree.
PGDIE opens various opportunities in different areas like industrial engineering, industrial design, Supply chain, and operations management. After completion of this course, you can expect yourself to be working at one of the top companies in India.
Most of my friends got placed in an FMCG company and are currently working in different domains. You will be given challenging projects every now and then. This will groom you for a business scenario. A good college will not guarantee a high-paying job in a top company, but it will only provide you with the best academics and exposure you will need in securing that job.
Working in an FMCG company will make your presence realize whenever you find your designed product in a supermarket. You will work hard enough to deliver the right product at right time.
Maintain very good academic records and prepare hard enough to get a job in a top company that offers very good opportunities and facilities to its employees, then your life after PGDIE can be great.
