My friend did his B.Tech ECE from NSIT. According to him, NSIT ECE is a better choice than BIT Mesra CSE. Here are the reasons for his preference for NSIT ECE-

  • Location- NSIT graduates have greater access to major industries due to its closeness to cities like Noida and Gurugram. For CAT, GRE, GMAT, etc., Delhi has a good coaching center facility.
  • Brand Value- The brand value of NSIT is greater than that of BIT Mesra.
  • Faculty at NSIT - You will be taught by some of the best professors in the country at the NSIT ECE department. Their letter of recommendation will open numerous doors for you.
  • Seniors at NSIT- The seniors at NSIT are very helpful. Some of your seniors working at top firms may even refer you for an internship/job interview.
  • Classes are held regularly at NSIT- There is a 75% attendance criteria at NSIT. The teachers also come for the lectures regularly.
  • Coding Culture at NSIT- The coding culture at NSIT is great and their coders make it to GSoC every year. Some of them are also ranked highly on sites like TopCoder and CodeChef.
  • Placements- The placements at NSIT are better than BIT Mesra. ECE students from NSIT get placed in core electronics companies, tech, and non-tech firms. Some of these companies are- Texas Instruments, Airtel, KPMG, Bain, BCG, McKinsey, TCS, Maruti Suzuki, Expedia, Google, Uber, etc.
  • The ECE course has been recently updated by NSIT as per the industry standards. You will get to choose among electives from the first year itself. The electives range from Finance to Sports.
  • NSIT is the only Indian college to send delegations to the prestigious Harvard MUN.

Thus, I would suggest you choose NSIT ECE over BIT Mesra CSE.

Which should my daughter choose, a CSE from IGDTUW or a ECE from NSIT/DTU/IIIT Delhi?

Sabeer Chalana Posted On : October 7th, 2023

The choice between CSE from IGDTUW and ECE from NSIT/DTU/IIIT depends on the goals of your daughter. If she is planning to pursue higher studies like MS or a Ph.D., then IIIT Delhi is a decent choice as it’s a research-oriented college. But if she is looking for a job, then IIIT Delhi will offer limited opportunities. This is because getting a job in Core ECE companies like Western Digital and Qualcomm is not easy, as these companies prioritize master students. A few talented students do get placed in Software firms.

In IIIT Delhi first year is the same for both CSE and ECE during which the students are taught Introduction to Programming, System Management, Computer Organisation, Data Structure, and Digital Circuits. Your chances of placement also depend on your CGPA which should be preferably above 7. IIIT Delhi offers the flexibility to choose the CSE courses, provided that you complete the minimum credits requirement in the last two years of B.Tech for the degree.

In all, I feel, that NSIT and DTU will offer great job opportunities because of their brand name but IIIT Delhi will teach you new things and also offer research opportunities

So it’s best to go for NSIT or DTU or IIIT Delhi. Choose wisely.

Why is CSE at IIITD considered better than CSE at NSIT?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 24th, 2023

NSUT Delhi is known for its COE (Computer Engineering) course.

The COE course is different from CSE. In COE, you will study hardware, electronics & signals, and codes & algorithms. Unlike CSE, software is not the main focus of study in COE.

Now as far as a comparison between them is considered, IIITD has a much better teaching environment than NSUT Delhi. Though it also has an experienced faculty, you will mainly be taught by Ph.D. students during the first two years.

Unlike before, however, the NSUT Delhi curriculum has been updated. There is now a CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) and you won’t have to compulsorily study unnecessary subjects. Both institutes have a pretty good placement record. Although the COE branch concerns itself more with hardware, students get placed majorly in software profiles.

All I can say is that NSUT Delhi has now an updated curriculum and a university status. On the other hand, IIITD is a comparatively new player in this field that is also performing quite well. Thus, both institutions are a good choice to pursue your computer studies.

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 23rd, 2023

Both NSUT Delhi and DTU are prestigious institutions. I will tell you about the perks of being a student at DTU-

  • Amazing student interaction- DTU students share a great bond with each other. Regardless of whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, you won’t be lonely. The crowd is really uplifting and welcoming to all the students.
  • Great senior-junior interaction- The seniors are really friendly and there is no ragging on campus. You will see yourself claiming their books and notes ahead of time.
  • Flexible academics- DTU allows you the time and freedom to explore your interests. Whatever you wish to do, this institution gives you all the freedom to do it. As far as the curriculum is concerned, the first year is quite easy. The curriculum is common for all, and half the topics aren’t new to you. The teachers too are a bit merciful. For the remaining 3 years, the difficulty level differs with your branch. CS, IT, Software students are under much more pressure. But they have the best placements among all the branches. ECE has some strict professors but the workload is manageable. MCA, EP, PCT, and ENE are good branches for research.Mechanical is the best branch at DTU. You will get hands-on experience and the workload is very doable. The institution is located near a lot of manufacturing factories so you will get good internship opportunities.
  • Campus- The campus is spread over 170 acres and is really mesmerizing. You will always have places to hangout with your friends within the college.
  • Societies- DTU has various societies where you can polish your skills and hobbies in entrepreneurship, social work and art.
  • College tag -The DTU tag provides internship opportunities and placement opportunities in big brands.

Both DTU and NSUT Delhi are well-renowned institutions. Joining these will be beneficial for you even after you graduate from them.

Which one to choose: NSIT's ICE (instrumentation and control eng) OR IIIT UNA CSE?

SA
Simran Arora Posted On : April 1st, 2021
Studied CS from NSIT (2019)

Firstly, you should know that IIIT UNA is a new college and although it has the IIIT tag, it hasn't been ranked by any esteemed Ranking platforms like NIRF. Its classes are also facilitated by NIT Hamirpur's faculty and the campus and faculty are nice.

As far as NSIT is concerned, it ranks #76 on the NIRF ranking portal for engineering and has a better location in Delhi than Hamirpur, because of the facilities and professional opportunities available.

Here are some more pointers to help you understand better -

  • If your interest lies in the program rather than the institute, then go for CSE. Although first reflect on the placement scenario of IIIT UNA, whether they receive good companies or not; if the package is satisfactory, and if speedy placements are facilitated after the course is over.
  • When you take a look at NSIT, then you should know that you'd be able to build a good career as a software engineer with the ICE program, but the management will be a little difficult because of the delicate balance between coursework and developing your programming skills.
  • Most ICE alumni are now pursuing MBA or working other non-technical jobs. For non-tech, NSIT offers better opportunities.

Here's a table on the placement scenario-

Parameters

IIIT UNA CSE

NSIT Instrumentation

Placement Rate

90%

85%

Average Salary

INR 6 LPA

INR 6 LPA

Highest Salary

INR 12 LPA

INR 50 LPA

Top Recruiters

IBM, Reliance, Analytics Quotient

Brain, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart

Lastly, decide according to your future goals and whether you'd like to pursue CSE or instrumentation.

Why are good institutes like IIIT-Hyderabad, IIIT-Allahabad, BITS-Pilani, NSIT and DTU missing in MHRD Rankings for best engineering institutes?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 2nd, 2023

The first-ever ranking of higher education institutions in India namely the Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, and Universities was released on the 4th of April 2016, by the MHRD. Many claimed that the report was misleading as they did not conduct thorough research before ranking the institutes.

Firstly, only 233 out of 720 universities participated and it's highly possible that some of the major colleges did not participate in the survey. So to get an exact picture, 100% participation is a must. One of my friends told me that his institute was a tier-3 institute with pathetic teaching faculty and placements and yet was ranked under 70. This alone is enough to point out that fallacy in the rankings. He also told me that most of the duvet conducted was done with false credentials, therefore, discrediting the rankings.
The worst part of these MHRD rankings is that the accuracy and authenticity are in the hands of the institute which can be easily manipulated. Overall I believe that The National Institutional Ranking Framework is a good idea, but poorly executed because the rankings are done on the basis of incomplete data and are often manipulated. Unfortunately, many students fall trapped in these inflated rankings and end up h choosing the wrong institute.

Is NSIT over-hyped?

SM
Senjuti Mitra Posted On : August 24th, 2023
Studied at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (Graduated 2022)

To determine if NSUT Delhi is over-hyped or not we need to compare someone’s before joining and after joining. One of my friends shared what he heard about NSUT that tempted him to join it

  • NSUT Delhi students get placed at tech giants like Google with 2 Crore packages
  • NSUT students have a record of cracking Civil Services Exams each year.
  • The students are so talented that many get selected for MIT or similar top universities.
  • The institute offers many nontech opportunities too through companies like JP Morgan, Bane, Goldman Sachs, etc
  • NSIT has an amazing peer group
  • The cultural fest Moksha witnesses performances of top artists like Edward Maya and Akcent.

Here is what he observed after joining NSUT Delhi:

  • Students get placed in tech giants like Google and Microsoft but only a handful around 4-5 students.
  • Students securing good marks in UPSC are very around 10 students each year and they are extremely hardworking
  • Only 2-3 extremely hardworking NSITians get selected for institutes like MIT
  • The '200% placement' is not true but an exaggeration.
  • The crowd quality is great for top branches like COE, IT, and ECE but not for average branches like ICE, MPAE, and BT.
  • The cultural fest Moksha was quite unknown until foreign artists like Akcent, and Edward Maya performed here,

So the hype it gets is true but only to a certain extent. People do exaggerate things and some might even feel that it’s over-hyped.

What should I choose, NSUT Electrical or IIT Kharagpur Food and agriculture Engineering?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : March 27th, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

For your information, the Agriculture Department of IIT Kharagpur itself is around 300 acres whereas the entire IIT Delhi is sightless less than 400 acres. The huge area of IIT KGP is definitely not a boon and might actually work against you. Moreover, it’s not a brainer that Electrical Engineering seems to be a better option than Agriculture Engineering unless you have an interest in the latter. NSUT itself is a pretty decent institute and is much in demand because of its central location.

In short, I recommend you to join IIT Kharagpur (Agriculture) only under 2 circumstances,

  • You are genuinely interested in the field and want it to pursue a career in the same
  • You want to pursue higher studies in foreign studies.

For this, the IIT tag will be much more useful than NSUT. The entire answer is based on my opinion only and not on any data.
