Which is a wiser choice ? IIFT Delhi or XLRI HRM?

AB

If you are a Human resource management lover then you sho should definitely opt for XLRI Jamshedpur HRM course. Otherwise, if you are looking for hardcore MBA courses then I would suggest you go for the IIFT Delhi IB program. It is their flagship course and only a very few institutes in the country offer the IB program and IIFT tops among all of them.

Additionally, the value of IIFT Delhi in the corporate world is very renowned, and recruiters easily hire candidates from IIFT Delhi. Although XLRI is also a renowned institute, I am not a HR enthusiast so if I were at your place I would have gone for IIFT Delhi.

IIM A, B, and C has better brand recognition than XLRI. However, XLRI HRM is better than all the IIM. In fact, it is among the best HRM programs across India and Asia Pac region. If you are interested in HR, XLRI should be your first choice. For other specializations, you can choose IIM A, B, and C over XLRI.

How must I prepare for the GD-PI rounds at XLRI Jamshedpur for the BM course?

AA
Aishwarya Anand Posted On : February 13th, 2023
Studied at Xavier School of Management

The interview process at XLRI covers a wide range of topics and is designed to give the interviewers a comprehensive understanding of the candidate. During the interview, you may be asked questions about yourself, your past education, any work experience you may have, your family, hobbies, current affairs, and your views on various global issues.

It is important to prepare for the classic interview questions, but it is equally important not to memorize them verbatim. Instead, be prepared for any variations of the questions that may be asked. Some commonly asked questions include:

  • Can you tell me something about yourself?
  • Why do you want to pursue an MBA, and why have you chosen XLRI? Why have you chosen a particular stream such as marketing or finance?
  • Can you tell me about a specific incident in your past and what you learned from it?

It is essential to be familiar with every point on your CV. It is perfectly acceptable to say "I don't know" to a technical question during an interview, but it is not ideal to not be able to answer a question about yourself or your CV.

During the interview, the panelists may ask you to speak about yourself and provide arguments for and against any current government scheme. They may also ask you to design an E-R diagram for an IT system for managing the admissions process of XLRI, and can also inquire about your hobbies and passion. It is crucial to be prepared for a wide range of questions and be able to express oneself effectively.

How do the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, and XIMB measure up to the established ones of XLRI, TISS, MDI and SCMHRD?

AA

The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.

  • Faculty: The professors of XLRI are renowned throughout the industry for their competency. They specialize in almost every domain one can think of be it Law, Competency Modeling, Compensation, or Performance Management.
  • Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar.

Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.

So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.

How worthwhile is the XLRI post-graduate program for a certificate in entrepreneurship management?

SG
Souvick Gupta Posted On : May 20th, 2021
Studied at Xavier School of Management

Post Graduate Programme for Certificate in Entrepreneurship Management is a 6 months duration course at XLRI. As my brother belonged to the 2017-18 batch of the PGP CEM course, here are some first-hand experiences he had.

  • As it's a tri-semester ordeal, each having about 7 to 8 subjects you will be evaluated on the basis of a mix of individual/group assignments and the finals.
  • You will be taught subjects related to what the initial year of a regular MBA will cater to, along with some unique ones like Technopreneurship and Agripreneurship to state a few.
  • The teaching is mostly theoretically driven so you'll have to refer to core books for each subject for the most part.
  • Class presentations will expose you to public speaking and explaining concepts which is a good way to build confidence and speaking to an audience.
  • You'll be taught by the same profs. who teach the regular MBA guys.

Overall, this is a good course if you already come with an initial idea about which field or genre you want to work in. Job seekers should completely avoid this since it wouldn't hold much value in their CVs except for a prestigious B-school name. Even if you are a fresher, you won't find this course optimum due to lack of experience. However, if you are a family business owner, you can definitely get insights into how to tackle problems and solutions occurring in your venture.

Can a 96 percentile in the CAT get admitted in XLRI or any IIMs?

RS
Rashi Shahi Posted On : May 28th, 2021
MBA from Xavier School of Management (2018)

For XLRI, you will have to appear in XAT. As for IIMs, the selection for admission varies depending on which category you belong to.

  • General Category Male Engineers (GEM): You are most likely to get calls from the new IIMs. It is more or less the same for GEF except for the gender diversity points.
  • General Category Non-Engineers: If you are from Arts background, expect a call from IIM A, B, C, even if you have only above 80% in 10/12/Undergrad. If you are a Commerce student you can expect a call from IIM I/K/S apart from the new IIMs.
  • OBC/NCL Category: As the sectional cutoff is lower, you can expect a call from all IIMs except ABC if you are an engineer. Female and non-engineering students will have gender/academic diversity advantages.
  • SC/ST Category: The required cutoff is fairly low for these two categories. But you will need decent past academics (at least 80%) to be eligible for top IIMs.

But these are only the minimum requirements to get a call for WAT-PI at these institutes. To be selected for admission, you will need to perform well in the WAT-PI round too as the competition will be fierce.

How good is XLRI Jamshedpur? How it fares against IIM ABC? Please answer, you view is valuable.

SM
Soham Mukherjee Posted On : April 18th, 2023
XLRI, Jamshedpur (2019)

With its HR program allegedly being the best in Asia, XLRI might be ranked as one of the top 6 management schools in India. Other areas of expertise like marketing and finance are also strong.

One of XLRI's major advantages, in addition to having a large alumni base, is that all of the HR directors at the country's top corporations are XLRI graduates. As a result, XLRI receives a fantastic placement. As most employers view it on par with IIM A, B, and C, this also helps if you wish to change jobs. It will be regarded as one notch lower when compared to IIM A, B, and C. Top IB and PE firms that exclusively visit IIM A, B, and C do not go to XLRI. But XLRI is a fantastic alternative if you are not interested in IB or PE.

Many reputable companies (in the financial and consulting industries) exclusively visit IIM A or B; XLRI is not among them. But even with fewer options, XL can help you get into the best companies. The batch size is one factor. The XL BM batch size (until the 2021 batch) was just 180, as opposed to IIM A, B, and C, which had twice as many.

The HRM program at XLRI Jamshedpur is one of the most prestigious programs in our country, therefore, there is a thin chance that the waitlist might move and waitlist 75 get converted. I wish her the best of luck and hope that she is able to secure a seat in XLRI.
