How is the sustainability management at IIM Lucknow?

AM
Ankit Malik Posted On : January 9th, 2023
M.B.A. from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Graduated 2017)

The Sustainability Management program is an excellent domain with the capability to gain fame quickly. Although it has been launched several years before it is only now that corporations are finally giving it the attention it deserves. In fact, some companies across the spectrum of industries are establishing formal teams to solve this issue.

The level of expertise in this domain is relatively lacking all across - policy making, policy implementation, regulation, etc. This can be seen as an opportunity as it has led to an increased demand for professionals with a formal background in Sustainability Management.

The curriculum includes the foundation management courses along with complex topics like

  • Principles of Sustainability
  • Marketing of Sustainability
  • Creativity in designing solutions for Sustainability
  • Measuring and Reporting Sustainability
  • Sustainability in SCM
  • Policymaking
  • Research in Sustainability
  • HRM for Sustainability

So in the current scenario, the Sustainability Management program offers ample opportunities to aspiring managers.

Which B-school is harder to get into when you have a 'mediocre' academic profile and 1 yr of work experience, FMS Delhi or IIM K, L, and I?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : May 23rd, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Among the above B-schools, FMS will be easier to enter because other IIMs like IIM K, IIM L, and IIM I give more weightage to past academic performance. FMS selection will be based on Personal Interviews, Group Discussions, and CAT scores.

IIM K gives 40% weightage while the initial shortlisting of candidates for Personal Interviews is contrary to IIM L and IIM Indore which gives only 20% weightage. IIM Indore gives no weightage to work experience where IIM K gives only 5% and IIM L gives 10% weightage.

All in all, if you are a mediocre student then you have to outperform others in terms of CAT score and PI/GD performance. Indore is home for freshers and competing here will be difficult but you should focus more on FMS then IIM L and then IIM K for your shortlisting and put your best foot forward and convert your calls.

All the best and Best of luck for your D-day.

Can I get a call from IIM Lucknow as well as FMS Delhi after getting a 99+ percentile in CAT? My academics marks are 74%, 73% and 65% in X, XII and graduate degree in engineering respectively.

Honestly speaking, your chances of getting into IIM Lucknow Calcutta and Kozhikode are scarce unless you score 100 percentile considering your profile. IIM Ahmedabad, Indore and Shillong won’t give you a call even after 100 as their eligibility criteria focuses majorly on past academics which are below average in your case.

IIM Bangalore is unpredictable in its eligibility criteria. It might take students with poor academic backgrounds but good work experience. So if you have none you can forget this chance also.

FMS does not almost consider past academics at all but for that, you need a CAT percentile of more than 99.5. For the safer side a 99.75 might grant you a conversion.

Don’t get demotivated just because of your past academic performance and ruin your future. Rather make the most out of your present life and opportunities.

Can a person graduating from IIMs like LIK and even the new IIMs like Ranchi and Trichy ever catch up to the graduates from ABC and get a similar package?

HN

There are three categories in which the answer can be seen:

  • Students who have graduated from IIM LIK can catch up to IIM ABC relatively easily or may end up at the same level by the end of their postgraduate program. IIM Trichy will eventually catch up with IIM LIK, though it may take around 5 years. IIM Ranchi, on the other hand, will take longer to reach the same level.
  • IIM LIK catching up with IIM ABC may take 3-8 years. With the presence of good FMCG/Consulting/Financial Services Companies, a jump or two could bring them to the same level. IIM Trichy and Ranchi will take a very long time to catch up with IIM ABC in this category.
  • The top 10% of students from IIM LIK and IIM ABC evolved as toppers after at least 18 months of hard work. There will be a significant difference between anyone in this category, regardless of whether they are from IIM ABC or LIK. While there may be a difference in starting packages due to the reputation of the institute, it will be made up for in subsequent years. It is not clear how long it will take for students from IIM Trichy or Ranchi to reach this level.

What are the benefits of doing an MBA from IIM Lucknow?

RG
Ritika Gusain Posted On : June 2nd, 2023

It’s very open-ended and questions since we don’t know what we are comparing your life at IIML with but this is a very common question that is asked by numerous candidates every year. And it also becomes important because your choices will have long-lasting effects on you. So, I’d try to be as objective as I can be. Other than IIML being one of the premier B-Schools and providing sizeable pay here are a few of the benefits of pursuing your MBA from IIM Lucknow:

Campus life: The college is known for its 185-acre campus with lush greenery and state-of-the-art facilities. The city is generally considered to be a comfortable place with a low cost of living compared to other major cities in India.

Mess food: No matter what you pay, getting good meals at the hostel is a dream of almost all the students but surprisingly enough the food quality of IIML is above average and will leave you amazed.

Batch Size: In normal circumstances, a large batch of students would be a disadvantage for you but in this case having a closed-knit community of nearly 900 students would definitely help you in grooming your overall personality.

Should I join IIM Lucknow for a PGP now offer in hand or wait and go for a one-year MBA program? My work experience is 45 months with decent academics.

If IIM Lucknow doesn't hire you for positions that are relevant to your experience in a 2-year program, it will be harder for you to land the desired positions (though there are exceptions).

The one-year MBA is designed for students with more than five years of experience and offers many benefits, including a balanced and diverse cohort from which you can learn from their past failures and successes. The placement scene for a 5-year-old male would be highly subjective (depending on your past experience, past brand name, etc.) People with less than six years of experience have been offered AVP positions in reputable MNCs. Therefore, it is dependent upon what you bring to the table.

Furthermore, because the 2-year course is 34/35 years old, industry acceptance is much higher than for the 1-year course, which is now in its 13th year.

Before making a decision, weigh your options and speak with as many alumni as possible.

Should a candidate interested in studying finance and economics join the ABM course at IIM Lucknow?

PS
Puneet Srivastava Posted On : January 9th, 2023
Former Post Graduate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2015–2017)

I think the PGP course is a better option if you are interested in Finance and Economics. This is because the ABM program offers the choice of only one option during the second year. The electives of the first year of both the programs ABM and PGP are the same. They comprise important topics like Micro and Macroeconomics, Financial Reporting and Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Financial Management.

Most importantly you will be missing out on Finance and Economics courses. Some ABM students are diligent enough to sit through these classes despite everything.

There are no major differences in the placement scenario of ABM and PGP. Though I will recommend you go for the PGP program of a more reputed institute. Through ABM you will have to resort to self-learning more.
