Which college is better, IIT BHU or IIT Gandhinagar?

YD
Yash Dasgupta Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.Tech BioEngineering Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (2021)

IIT BHU and IIT Gandhinagar both are decent IITs. IIT Gandhinagar has a better NIRF ranking as compared to IIT BHU. Although IIT BHU has a lot of Engineering courses to offer, the overall infrastructure and environment are not as conducive as IIT Gandhinagar. Also, the recent year’s cutoffs are comparably higher for IIT Gandhinagar.

Furthermore, IIT Gandhinagar has a unique and distinctive “Foundation Program” which helps students get acquainted with academic life and college environment. Besides, the faculty of IIT GN is also among the best. On the contrary, there is a shortage of faculty members in many branches (including Civil Engineering) at IIT BHU.

The campus location of IIT Gandhinagar is also comparably better as compared to IIT BHU. It is pertinent to note that the campus of IIT BHU is merged with BHU, which makes the campus a crowded place for students. Also, the placement scenario in both the colleges is almost at the same level.

Although IIT BHU being much older than IIT Gandhinagar, offers a huge alumni base. IIT GN might be considered a new IIT by many, but the progress that it has shown is humongous. It also provides a conducive environment for research scholars and has an overhauled infrastructure (including labs). Both colleges have their pros and cons, so it is hard to choose one institute over the other.

What should I choose between IITBHU pharmaceutical and NITJalandhar CSE taking branch change at IITBHU into consideration? How tough will branch change be for us as the classes are likely to be online

Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : July 1st, 2023

IIT BHU is one of the top 10 IITs and is renowned for its rich alumni network and effective academic structure. But if you are interested in the CSE field, then opt for NIT Jalandhar. Institutes are equal in providing beneficial classes to students. The branch change is not that easy at II BHU; the competition level is very high, and only 10% of students with a high CGPA get the chance for a branch change. The classes will be conducted offline, which is much better than online classes. You can use the library for more references, and in-person classes are more interactive, which will help you improve your academic performance. So, it is better for you to choose NIT Jalandhar.

HK
Harish Kumar Posted On : March 28th, 2023
Market Analyst (2019-present)

It is difficult to say which program is better as it is more of a matter of personal interest than program worth. However, it is a well-established fact that IITs are highly respected and provide an excellent education in the field of computer science and engineering (CSE). Both the CSE programs; the 5-year program at IIT Kharagpur and the 4-year program at IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee, and IIT BHU are equally good academically.

If it’s placements you are concerned about, IIT BHU will satisfy all your expectations as it has the best companies, amazing coding culture, and an elaborate alumni network. The highest package for 2022-2023 placements was reported to be INR 1.2 CPA with top companies like Microsoft Google, and Facebook visiting the campus to hire for their Seattle/California office. Most reputed companies in India pay a visit to IIT BHU and sometimes offer more than one offer to each student. Some students even have PPOs way before the placement season begins. If placements are your concern you can rest assured as the CSE branch at IIT BHU offers the best packages in top companies. Some top recruiters include

  • Rakuten
  • Uber
  • Zeta
  • Microsoft SWE
  • Oracle

Additionally, it would be important to consider your personal interests, career goals, and other factors when making this decision.

When will IIT (BHU) Varanasi become a real IIT?

PM
Pooja Mitra Posted On : August 13th, 2020
Studied Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2014)

IIT-BHU is one of the most reputed colleges in India and is a real IIT. This question might have popped up because IIT BHU got converted from IT BHU to IIT in 2012. But, even before that, it pretty much met the standards of IITs. Students who got admission, even before 2012, had qualified JEE Advanced. Below mentioned points will back up the above statements.

  • In almost all old IITs, there is a shortage of faculty. But IIT BHU has well qualified and extremely knowledgeable faculty.
  • IIT-BHU students have proven their mettle in various national and international contests. Students and the faculty have contributed a lot to the development of our nation through sustained research.
  • The course framework of IIT BHU is very student-friendly as compared to that of other IITs. Here, students have a plethora of opportunities to hone every skill they like. The courses are designed so that students do not feel pressured by them and get a lot of time to pursue their interests.
  • IIT BHU has the best sports facilities one can think of. Name any sport, and you can see students playing that here. IIT BHU fitness-enthusiasts make it very tough for other participants in Inter-IIT sports meet.
  • IIT-BHU has the largest campus among the universities in India. Sometimes miscreants do make trouble, but that’s severely dealt with, and the campus administration consistently strives to make the campus safer.

The points, as mentioned above, very well prove that IIT BHU is very worthy of being an IIT.

SA
Surabhi Agarwal Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Enginnering, National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2020)

Making a choice between two different institutes offering two different courses is always difficult. Both NIT Durgapur and IIT BHU are reputed institutes and offers decent placement, so choose according to the branch you are interested in.

NIT Durgapur is a prestigious institute among the NITs of India. It ranks 47 among the engineering colleges in India according to the NIRF Rankings 2020. The placement statistics of 2019 at this institute revels, the CES department had a placement rate of 88.64%, and 78 students out of 88 got placed. The average CTC offered was around 9.09 LPA.

NIRF ranked IIT BHU at 11 among the engineering colleges. IIT BHU also holds a decent placement record. In 2019 campus placement a total of 49 students got placed from the Ceramic Engineering Department. The average CTC ranged around 10 LPA to 58 LPA. Besides core companies, students can also sit for software companies that come for placement in this institute which is an added advantage.

Being an IIT, IIT BHU offers certain perks but as a course, CSE has better scope than Ceramic Engineering.
