Which college should I join, SJMSOM or NITIE or IIM-I?

RR
Rahul Raj Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

After doing some research on the internet, I would say that NITIE, SJMSOM, and IIM-I have their own pros and cons.

  • Students with good academic records prefer to join IIM Indore rather than NITIE and SJMSOM.
  • But there will be more opportunities available during the summer placement in NITIE and SJMSOM.
  • In order to get a good placement in the final year, you must convert the opportunity into PPO/PPI.
  • If you are more inclined towards marketing and finance then IIM Indore will be good for you, as it will provide better opportunities than NITIE and SJMSOM.
  • If you are passionate about Supply chain and Operations then NITIE is the place to be.
  • NITIE being in the financial capital of India offers a location advantage as compared to IIM Indore.

The below table can provide you with the basic information about them.

Category NITIE SJMSOM IIM Indore
Recruiters Dabur, ITC, Johnson & Johnson, Marico, etc. Amazon, Deloitte, Cadbury, Axis Bank, etc. Abbott, Flipkart, Network18, Accenture, etc.
Average CTC INR 20.88 LPA INR 21.96 LPA INR 23.6 LPA
Lowest CTC INR 20.7 LPA INR 22.00 LPA INR 6.00 LPA
Highest CTC INR 58.2 LPA INR 32.80 LPA INR 41.5 LPA

Therefore, choosing NITIE, SJMSOM or IIM Indore depends on you and in which field you want to make your career. It will be completely your decision, so play along your strengths.

What is the better way to get an admission in NITIE Mumbai through the GATE or the CAT?

BN
Bindiya Negi Posted On : August 12th, 2021
Studied Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Some of my friends studied at NITIE Mumbai. According to them, there is no better way to get admission to NITIE. There are 2 ways to get admission, these include -

  • Through GATE - This leads to admission in courses like PGDIE, which is the flagship course, PGDMM, and PGDPM.
  • Through CAT - This gets admission in PGDIM and PGDISEM.

At NITIE all the courses are given equal importance. The faculties of every course are highly experienced and very cooperative.

The college conducts a common placement program, where all the students of all departments can take part in. The course structure is almost similar during the first year.

So you can choose from these 2 ways to get admission to NITIE. Ultimately it depends on your strengths and weaknesses.

There is nothing like a better way to join NITIE, to join any of the courses you have to be top-ranked in the respective exams.

How was your interview experience at NITIE Mumbai?

AG
Anushua Gupta Posted On : August 18th, 2021
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

One of my friends appeared for the interview of the 2020-22 batch. The interview was online. The pattern was entirely new. The offline interview got canceled due to the Covid-19 situation. NITIE also cancelled the GD.

Online Interview:

They received a set of 6 questions, on which they needed to prepare a talk for five to seven minutes. The questions were regarding the following.

  • General Profile (Name, Academics, Background)
  • Project related details
  • Questions related to jobs. Freshers were asked to speak on selected problems from their discipline.
  • Questions regarding extracurricular activities, i.e. any specific achievements, awards, conference presentations, etc.
  • Why NITIE?
  • What is your career goal?

Apart from these 6 questions, there was a surprise question on current affairs. The time allotted for the surprise question was two minutes.

Platform:

The interview was a recorded session on the TALVIEW app/website. After you login with your credentials, the app promotes the first question. After 30 seconds the recording starts with a timer of 7 minutes. Once you submit your first answer, the second question comes on your screen and the answer is similarly recorded. They were given a time slot for recording the interview.

According to my friend they were judged based on their presentation skills, body language, confidence, and presentation. My friend's interview was quite good and he converted.

What should I choose between IIM Kozhikode and NITIE considering placements (acads: 88/77/64, 22 months exp in IT)?

AY

PGP from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2021)

While selecting an MBA college, all the other factors become secondary to placements.

Top MBA colleges have similar visiting companies and almost equal average packages. What makes a difference is whether you will be shortlisted for recruitment or not. The minimum grade requirement depends upon the average score of the respective batch.

Considering your academic record, you are an average student. At IIMK, the average batch score is around 90%. This is because it has some of the most brilliant students. But it is difficult for an average student to match such high grades. Especially because of the system of relative grading at IIMK.

NITIE follows absolute grading, and the batch average is around 80%. This makes it a haven for GEM. NITIE does not only cater to the supply chain industry, although it is the biggest name for this sector. Its graduates do very well in other sectors like Marketing as well.

Thus, I would recommend you select NITIE over IIM Kozhikode.

What GATE rank is required for a mechanical student (general) for getting a call from NITIE Mumbai?

SM
Snehal Menon Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

It is suggested to fill up maximum programs in NITIE Mumbai. In the initial stage, most of the IIT and NIT are occupied by students who finally go to PSU’s. A lot of vacancies are created in these institutes; you just have to keep yourself updated with it and apply for it.

  • Students with 50-65 marks join any good institute like IIT BHU, ISM Dhanbad, NIT Jamshedpur, MANIT Bhopal, NIT Patna, etc.
  • It is wise to contact the seniors already present there and talk to them about the preparation.
  • Students with marks 35-50 should try again and the ones who secured less than 35 should join private jobs.
  • GATE is not the last option. There are approximately 225 more PSUs and IES, RRB, State Govt. and many more job opportunities left.
  • PSU calls students up to rank 2000 and the seats are confirmed till AIR 500 and the rest depends on the interview.
  • NITIE Mumbai is a good option if you have a rank from 500-3000.
  • M.Tech is excellent from institutes such as IISC and top IITs.

Lastly, students of the general category opting for Mechanical Engineering at NITIE Mumbai require a GATE score of 720-760 and above.

Can you please describe a typical day at NITIE Mumbai?

PC
Palak Chitra Posted On : August 12th, 2021
PGDIM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2017)

NITIE Mumbai happens to be my brother’s alma mater, so I think I can give you an idea about life at the institute.

  • Pre-Summers: 4–5 lessons each day at most. Summer assignments and preparation. Again, there are a lot of GDs to prepare for the summer. You have to study on your own.
  • Post-Summer: Relaxed schedule. There are no more than 4–5 lessons. There are numerous activities on the playground. There will be no issues with preparation and a tight timeline. During the week, you can hang out with your friends. On weekends, the hostel is almost completely empty.
  • Internships: During the internship, you will be busy with work.

Aside from that, two to three classes each day are required. Prepare for case studies and try to pass at least one for a bonus point on your CV (takes most of the time). Focus on your final results rather than doing 4-5 assignments (one assignment is enough).

NITIE has a beautiful pond and a lush green campus. Students usually enjoy the beauty of the campus in between classes, and they occasionally visit the pond after dinner.

Outside campus, like any other institution in India, there is a small corner shop called KASHI Snacks. From tea to food, this restaurant has everything for NITIE students. As a result, this is a site that is generally crowded with students.

Why did you choose NITIE Mumbai over IIMs?

IC
Indranil Choudhary Posted On : August 11th, 2021
MBA Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2020)

My brother is a former student of NITIE, currently working at a reputed MNC with a great package. His selection to NITIE was an informed decision as he was aware of the opportunities he is gonna get in terms of internships, research projects, and placements. He talked to various alumni and his friends at NITIE to make sure he is making the right decision. The high quality of intellectual students and professors and the huge alumni base of 50+ years does make a lot of difference here.

Here are some highlights of NITIE that you may find helpful.

  • Being one of the oldest Business Schools in the country. NITIE has a very rich heritage.
  • NITIE has a great alumni base i.e great networking opportunities and support.
  • NITIE has connections across the globe.
  • Highly qualified professors with tremendous collaboration opportunities.
  • Great ROI with a 100% placement record.
  • Great learning opportunities (internships and placements in top companies).

NITIE gave my brother an opportunity to present his research at the prestigious Stanford University and helped him land a Pre-Placement Offer in one of the biggest conglomerates of the country.

According to my brother’s experience, NITIE, IIM K, and IIMI are on the same level. You can select one of these institutes based on your branch preference. And if you are looking for a job in operation and supply chain management profile, then NITIE is even a better option than IIM A.

What is your choice and why between NITIE PGDIE and PSU jobs from the GATE?

UK
Uday Kumar Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

As some of my friends are related to the above-mentioned careers, I will give information on both PSU jobs and NITIE PGDIE so that you will get a basic idea and make the right choice.

PSU:

  • All PSU jobs are different from each other. You will find different cultures in different departments.
  • PSU’s Oil marketing departments such as BPCL, IOCL, HPCL are in high demand.
  • Your life will also be smooth in these departments.
  • NTPC offers jobs at remote locations but gives a good work-life balance. On the other hand, ONGC offers good pay.
  • Its transfer process is also smooth and runs on a 14 days on-off pattern, unlike other PSU jobs.
  • ONGC job location can also be remote.
  • PSU jobs are for those who want a decent salary and want a smooth life.

NITIE:

  • In NITIE you can complete your post-graduation and get placement in management.
  • It provides a great placement.
  • The highest package of 2020-21 is INR 35 LPA.
  • The opportunity is provided to GATE candidates by NITIE.
  • Every top company such as Google, Flipkart, Amazon, ITC, Uber, BMW, Ola and more comes for placement as well as for internships.
  • You have to work hard while working for these big companies.
  • Your hard work will be rewarded with promotions and high pay.
  • In PSU you cannot get immediate promotion and you also don’t get much appreciation for your work.

Therefore, both PSU and NITIE have their own pros and cons. So, make a conscious decision before entering any field.
